SCREAM 4 details emerge

The internet has been buzzing since news broke that original writer Kevin Williamson was bringing back Scream with a new trilogy of sequels, but not much has been revealed about the project until recently when SciFi Wire spoke with Williamson and Courteney Cox, who both revealed minor details on what we can expect.

Williamson confirms that this will indeed be the start of a new trilogy and we'll see the return of the Ghostface mask, but apparently another incarnation of it may also make an appearance somewhere down the road. The story is said to take place 10 years after the events of the previous sequel, where Deputy Dewey is now the town Sheriff and is married to reporter Gale Weathers. The two apparently have a kid together.

The script should be finished in the next couple months and he'll pass it along to Wes Craven, who has been open to returning to the series, as long as the script's good. When asked why he decided to return to the franchise after his departure from Scream 3, he had this to say...

"Bob Weinstein has been bugging me for 100 billion years. 'Where's Scream 4? Let's do Scream 4! Let's just do it, Kevin, let's just do it.' Wes and I were like, 'No way, no way, no way.' Then, finally, I was taking some time off, and I was sitting around going, 'OK, what if I had to do Scream 4? If I had to do Scream 4, what would I [do]?' I wasn't interested, but a trilogy? Now I'd be interested. Can we do that? Can we pull that off? Could we actually develop a trilogy? Then I started thinking about the story, and I created three different chapters, I broke it out and I got really excited about it."

Yes the other two did lack a bit, I mean it was pretty obvious to say that when they announced the first sequel I knew it was gonna be revenge from someone we had not met, after the announcement of the 3rd I knew it was gonna be jealousy, now with the announcement of the 4th I know its the end of a chapter and a start of a new with the start of a new trilogy and the reimaging of the mask cool! Cant wait still for this one, but Dewey cant die he's too cool! I would agree with Joshua though as well, if more people would go and see more of these new horror films then they would stop making pointless sequels and remakes, you every given year there is over 1000 movies released by American production companies and we cant like one of them enough to get friends and family to go see it? And also following Joshua's comment, why do people keep carrying on that they want these sequels and when they finally get released they sit there and bitch about it? They've only got themselves to blame.

Maybe, just maybe if people went to see the original movies that are made then we'd get more of them. Hello!!!! Did anyone go see Vampire's Assistant? How about Anti-Christ, Pontypool, Splinter, A Perfect Getaway, Pandorum, Jennifer's Body.. etc??? All the boxoffice bucks seem to go to the unnecessary squeals and remakes, one can hardly blame Hollywood for seeing an obvious demand and filling it. Stop bitching about a situation that you all helped to create.

Truth is that hollywood is running out ideas for movies so they resort into making sequels or remakes not because they do well at the office. To me hollywood does not offer enough original movies as they rely too much on sequels and remakes for some quick cash. Many sequels and remakes tend to leave some people really disappointed for the lack of effort hollywood has put in pointless sequels/remakes. Actually, I have avoided threatres most of the this year because of how disappointing the movies have been So not all of us has fully supported sequels or remakes nonsense. However, I will see Scream 4 to see how bad it will be. First two Screams where great, but Scream 3 was really terrible. I fear Scream 4 will be worse than Scream 3. Besides WE HAVE the right to complain all we want when some people like myself would like to see a decent enough movie that is not another terrible sequel or remake. I

its so hard to have an original idea these days!the best that producers and directors can do is change up a movie a little or make a remake with better effects!!

Hm...
I'm a huge fan of the original film, but both sequels were lacking in my opinion. I feel the series is done, they wrapped it up in part 3, and I don't think that there is anywhere to go from that ending. If they can pull it off, great, and I will probably be seeing this in theaters regardless - because, hey, it's a Scream Flick, alright? I grew up on the trilogy. I just don't have very high hopes for it. Puzzled

I bet you, this movie will be worse than scream 3. The first two were good, but the rest will suck. Let the series die already, everything was wrapped up in scream 3. It shows how desperate hollywood is getting when they are doing nothing but sequels and remakes. Can anyone even remember when a orginal movie came out lately?

Devil's Rejects, 1000 Corpses, Pulse,Drag Me to Hell, 28 Days Later,Hostel,Saw,The Happening,The Orphan, and there are more. And as for the slew of re-makes,I for one enjoy most of them.

I was talking about the last two years, those movies you mention are kinda of old except for Orphan. As for Orphan not 100 percent original as it basically a remake of the good son. Also pulse was a remake of a japaneese film

I am glad someone else has heard of "Good Son" because it did remind me of that.

Ummm, Pulse WAS a remake....and seriously The Orphan? How many killer kids movies are there? But I'll give ya credit for the rest of 'em!

I've never been a fan of scream. Only watched the 1st one because Craven was involved. The writing hasn;t been bad and the general story is ok. I just couldn't grasp why so many people hated and wanted to kill this one girl for things her mom did... or whatever.
I'll need to see more before i decide if i want to be bothered.

It could be good.... as long as they don't go towards the already fully played out Billy Loomis family circus theory! That's WAY played out and will only ruin the new beginning if it's the end result!
