I personally think that this movie looks okay. No it does not have our favorite horror badass robert englund as freddy but the film does show potential. As for the concerns on the opening sequence where Freddy says he didn't kill anyone. He's probably saying that so they won't beat his ass. I will go see this film but I already know it will not be as good as the original. Does anyone else think that at the end of the trailer when they show freddy's face..he looks really weird and that freaked me out? it was like...he had no nose or something..maybe that was them trying to make him burned and horribly disfigured?
i think that the general feeling of this movie being more a revenge film rather than a full on psychotic killer film will ring true when it is revealed, and i also agree that this wouldnt be the past route to take..freddy was evil because he was the 'son of a thousand maniacs'..his evil was hiereditary and not driven by revenge..he did in dreams exactly what he did in real life, kill kids.if he wanted revenge he would be just as well stalking the adults that burned him.however,i reserve my true opinion until i see the movie...you just never know.
Michael Bay has me worrying about this film
personaly im SICK TO DEATH of these new age remakes
Give me a true blue director that has a passion for the original films and will be able to add something new to it
The only thing that kept me watching the trailer was Jackie Earl Haley
I cant think of a more PERFECT Freddy
What im hoping for a lot more back story all in one film
In the original series, the story of Kruger was pretty much dragged out for 4 films
I would love to see how Kruger decided to invent his infamous glove (partialy seen in the opening of the first film)
All though in the beggining of the trailer Kruger (Jackie Haley) is shown whinning for the life of him that he didnt murder anyone
If hes shown in this film as being murdered an innocent man and wanting revenge solely based on that im gonna be pissed
Freddys evil behvior lied in his manic drive and bloodlust, not because of revenge
Eh, what the hell ill go see it (but im not excited for it)
quite frankly these teens never get what they truely deserve
ugh they get stupider every movie, i hate teens so much (and yes i hate myself too)
I dunno, I persoanlly thought some of the lines from 3 were some of the worst. You keep mentioning the campiness, but it was the "sarcasm", and one liners that got me. I USUALLY enjoy campy films. You mentioned the syringe sequence, but remember when he asked the girl in a deep goofy surfer voice "Wanna go get high?". And of course the damn kids were the worst part. I personally thought 3 was one of the worst. The next two were ok, they seemed a lot like his comic book personality, and New Nightmare for me was GREAT! Very horror oriented, and lacked MOST of the goofyness established prior. As for owning the set, wooh, who doesnt? I mean, I think I saw a set for like 6-10 bucks at Hastings? (Not trolling, but you did TRY to legitimize your point by letting us know you had ALL of the films.
omg this movie looks awesome
! but doesnt he look differnt ?
at the end of the trailer he face was shown he looked differnt to me me i hope that they didnt fuck up hiz face he should look like how he was in freddy vs jason.
If you'd read the uhm page on it, they state that they made freddy look alot more like an actual burn victim. Which is awesome!
By the way, as i said, no problem with remakes (texas and my bloody valentine are cool, in my opinion, when a stranger calls sucked and so did prom night) but i would like to see remakes of less mainstream horror films, like the burning and terror train.
I'm holding onto hope that this will be cool. I think the trailer looks cool, but this is the same company who did the Friday the 13TH remake, which isn't a horrible movie, but it wasn't a very good movie, either (in my opinion) but i personally have no problem with remakes (if they rock, they rock, if not, hold onto the original. I say give it a chance and if it's good, awesome. If not, come back to this page and speak ur mind! (U guys already do and i respect you for it, even if i may not agree at times.)
I have always felt that you were suposed to infer that he was also a molester. That is what I got from the original film. It is rare for someone to be a child killer without also being a child molester.
I don't understand how all of you can judge an hour and a half movie, which you haven't seen yet, from a 3 minute trailer.
OK when I first heard this was being remade it kind of pissed me off, but i had the same reaction when Friday the 13th came out and i thought that one was going to suck to but it was alright so i think I'll give this one a chance to.
After seeing the first trailer, any shred of hope was gone. There is absolutely no way that this rehash version will come close to the dark and terrifying aspects of the original. Hell, that movie really gave me nightmares for years and a remake really won't help much. Besides, knowing the formula that Hollywood is using, it will be some full of favor-of-the-month actors with a ton of CGI and a shitty story. Hell, if that scene of Freddy burning, taking off his jacket to reveal that famous sweater didn't make you cringe, then this movie will probably be for you.
Damn Hollywood can't you take a fucking hint! None of the rehash versions have lived up the the original. Sure, they'll make some $$ on open weekend, but other than that they will sink within the following week. I for one will avoid this movie like a drunk girl at a party.
I own the full Nightmare on Elm Street box that includes all the movies save for Freddy vs. Jason. This being because the set was released in 1999. It also comes with a bonus disk that has a lot of interviews and deleted scenes and a game on it. All the disk are also cd-roms. If you place them in your computer you get a game to play that if you win you get free access to things online. It only cost me about $60. If you see it, BUY IT.
Now on to the movies. There were a total of 8 movies that Freddy appeared in. The titles are
Nightmare on Elm Street
Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
NIghtmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
Freddy's Dead'
Wes Cravens New Nightmare
Freddy Vs. Jason
Most of the movies were really dark. The series didn't get over the top campy until Freddy's Dead.
The original was really dark and Freddy wasn't seen nor heard a lot in the movie. He stayed in the dark and he didn't talk much. The sequel followed suit. There is also an awesome scene were Freddy rips out of Jesse's body. The third started to show the campiness a bit but it wasn't with Freddy. The kids involved were corney. When they fellow asleep they got abilities. One was really strong, the other was a wizard. Stupid. You can do anything in a dream, why were they limited to one thing? Freddy was dark still. There is a scene were Freddy's finger tips turn into syringes and he injects a former herion addict with some kind of liquid. Her old track marks start to open and close like mouths. This movie also stared Patrica Arquette. Her character followed into the third one but it wasn't played by her. Which brings me into the fourth. The third, fourth and fifth are all connected stories lines. The third is about nothing really. Freddy just kills the kids. This one still had a dark Freddy, though some campiness was slowly coming through. This one also had, what I feel, one of the best death in Freddy history. A chicks arms snap off and cockroach arms come out. You mutates into a cockroach and is crush in a roach motel. Is very graphic and awesome. In the fifth, Freddy tries to take over the unborn baby of a character in the fourth one. The sixth he is killed and we learn A LOT about is past and how he became to be the bogeyman. This one is where the really campy things happen. Freddy is very animated and talk a lot. Wes Cravens New Nightmare doesn't follow any of the previous ones. It does have Freddy but that is the only real connection.
OK ,it appears its not out in Australia yet, so I have some questions.
1- Is this an exact remake of the original ?
only difference its in HD right ?
But different actors ,right ?
Unfortunately I do not remember remakes ever making it to the big Box Office , but if thats what the producers expect ,then so be it.
Personally I think Freddy 3 was the best one where he upsets a lot of people at a party and tortures someone in the shower .
Personally excited, though i don't remember much from the original.
Hope that doesn't make me any less of a horror fan. I should buy the original to refresh my memory. it's never on tv.
i for one am really happy to see them remake this movie.....if freddys gonna be more sadistic and not as comical, it should make for a better freddy.....well, except that no one can out do tha original....
In the past week I have watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 times and it was great. I never really appreciated how scary the movie actually was. I pray that they really push the boundries with this. Fuck it use Craven's original ideal and make him a pedophile, that just adds to the sick factor of the movie. This movie really could make Freddy the sickest and scariest villian of all but I just don't see it with the trailor. I wish I wouldn't have watched the original because now I am 10 times more disappointed with the remake....so far. No one watch the original because I have a feeling you will feel like me. "No running in halls" Thats great.
thanks for the heads-up. who the hell hasn't seen the original? i'll make sure to not watch the 2003 super bowl too, now that i know the panthers lost.
I just can't get Robert England out of my head. This is going to be hard to adjust. It was easy to adjust to Halloween because Michael never said anything, but Freddy does and I hope I get past that and enjoy this movie.
cool, except the make up is not cool, and Freddy already seems whiny. I liked that Freddy was funny. In a sick way, but funny just the same.I do like the guy from Watchmen as Freddy.{sorry I don't know his name yet}But that dude is cool. And he fits "Freddy" well.they just need to let him be more "Mah,ha,ha,ha,haa," a.k.a. more twisted.
I dont kno bout the new freddy. wat made tha old freddy unique was his since of humor. i understand y they would make him more serious to giv it somethin new and put another direction on it but then givin freddy a new face man i hope they can pull it off but it wasnt like freddy needed to be fixed, the concept of freddy was perfect to start off wit a killer that kills u wen u sleep theres nothin on this earth that doesn't sleep that alone is scary in its own but im no hater so good luck to the new fred
BLAH!! Point is im soooooo fricken happy it's coming out!!!!
Well, take the implications as you want, but over ALL arching stories (including the comics and expanded universe), he is "creepy" and pervy, and NO you are NOT supposed to "like" or root for him, he is the antagonist! LOL! I deffinitely like him less under my interpretation, but then again, I read his comics too, where he wears a chicks skin in her dream to sedduce her boyfriend (only to kill him of course, NOT to bone him, but it is weird and sexual)! Also, in my state, sex with a "minor" and "pedophiles", usual count for sex with ANYONE under legal age. So...Teenagers. And the reason it is heavily implied but not said is here "Additionally, Craven's original script detailed Krueger as a child molester, which Craven said was the "worst thing" he could think of. The decision was made to instead make Krueger a child murderer in order to avoid being accused of exploiting the state of highly publicized child molestation cases in California around the time A Nightmare on Elm Street went into production" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddy_Krueger Also, in Final Nightmare, it is revealed he has a history of child abuse, which may just be physical. Anywho, dont get flamed, just some points of view.
Yeah, I am deffinitely stoked too. One thing that alwyas bothered me was Freddy's almost "jester" like "humor" and goofiness. So I am DEFFINITELY hoping the creators stick to their goal of making him more serious. THEN, when he fights Jason, it will be UBER badass! LOL! (hint hint directors). Also, if you like that stuff, go pick up Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, from your local comic shop! Brutal and clever, AND gross!
Well, the point of "remakes" is to redefine the movie in itself. Im excited. Some of the old nightmare on elm street movies sucked an ass and a half. This one looks at it in a different way. This movie will come out. Ive waited too long for this movie. It would also be cool if they made the new jason fight the new freddy.
I agree with you. A couple of the nightmare on elm st. movies were really bad. I love the first nightmare on elm st, so when I first heard about the remake, I thought great here they go again. There going to mess up another original, but after seeing the trailer I have to admit it looked pretty good!
The trailer is def insane, Very affective for being thrown together so soon after shooting. looking forward to this film and the two other upcoming Elm Street sequels to follow.
I can't say I am frothing at the mouth to see this movie. I love my Freddy and I agree with the earlier post that there is no scare in this new Freddy. And what is with the whiney Freddy in the trailer. It is a little sad. I hope that will be fixed or left on the cutting room floor, I cannot see Freddy, whining or begging or crying to anyone. But that is just me. Time will tell.
The trailer does exactl what its supposed to do. It makes u wonder but gives u enough information to dwell on. Like the plot for instence. U automaticlly find out that freddy thinks he is wrongfully accused, where as in the original he obviously had a bad temper and would take it out on the little kids of his home town. I think that they are goin the rout that he is your normal everyday guy that no one understands and when shit hits the fan, he is put into a spot that makes him look bad. That right there is enough to exact revenge on the people and there kids that burned him alive. I just hope that his face is not computer animate or CGI.
When I first heard about this remake I was very upset. I'm a diehard fan of the original and Robert Englund. This trailer doesn't look terrible, but I'm hoping the make up and voice effects haven't been touched up yet - otherwise...there is no scare in this new Fred.
I did like that there seems to be more kills in this version. Let's just hope they go all out in awesome dream sequences. I also liked that he has some moves Rob's Freddy never used, like grabbing someone by the hair. The set and atmosphere is just right, and I'm glad they didn't change the jumprope song. I too prefer the dark Freddy, as he scared the crap out of me...but his rare oneliners (part 3) were fine too.
So now...I'm on the fence about this.
Anyone else think it would be awesome if Robert Englund did a cameo? I'd see it just for that. lol
Ok here is some constructive critcism.
1.Freddy does grab a chick by her hair it was "Wes Cravens New Nightmare"
2. Not only were his oneliners in "The Dream Warriors", they started there and went on through the other 4 films.
Just a bit of info. for u. Just ask me if u are not sure about any info. u are hearing about. I own all the films and seem them a number of times. Don't ask stupid questions iether like "Do you know the body count of each film?" I don't. I do know a few of the little things about some of the films.
does anybody else think the new freddy sounds like the grinch lol. Looking forward to seeing into freddys past sounds like the directors are taking a leaf out of zombies Halloween remake which i enjoyed because of that
Trailer looks good cnt wait 2 see this
I am not sure how I feel about the remake of this movie. I can't say it's something that I'm dying to see. I won't be hurt if I can't go to the movies to see it.
I am not sure how I feel about the remake of this movie. I can't say it's something that I'm dying to see. I won't be hurt if I can't go to the movies to see it.
So maybe remakes should be more like psycho? Scene for scene the same thing? Get outta here with that. Nobody wants to see that!!! You all bitch about how hollywood has no originality and when they do try to throw some in you bitch about them changing things. MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MINDS!!! You want the same thing or you want to spice it up a bit?!?!
Oh and by the way Freddy was never a bloody pedophile you idiots!!! He just hated kids!! And I kinda do like the path they might be taking in Freddy claiming he never did what they think he did. That would be a more plausible reason to come back and kill their kids would it not?
freddy was a pedophile. that is the premise of the whole fucking story.
If thats the case then find me anywhere in any of the movies that you are told he is a pedophile....the whole premise is he killed kids and got burned by the parents. They don' say, "Oh he raped our kids and killed em". And I'm pretty sure that would be information we would get told.
Haha! I agree with you, lok what happened to the Punisher: Warzone, it was damn near IDENTICAL to the 2007 Punisher Max comics, which everyone wanted, yet the fans hated it. Halloween tried TWICE, once cloaning and once creative and BOTH failed (by the fans). People dont want to see well done adaptations, they want a reason to bitch!
As far as the pediphile thing, it is HEAVILY implied throughout ALL the originals including Freddy vs Jason, though it is never said out right. He is overtly sexual in regards to the young girls. But I agree, I want to see him maybe NOT be a baby killer for real and just different.
As far as the pediphile subject goes. That really depends on ur point of view. I have see the films a number of times and I gathor that again he is not a child rapist but a child killer. Another sick individual. 2 freddy versus jason come on! Seriously! Freddy Vs. Jason was mostly based off the Friday the 13th series. Friday the 13th was all about young teens have sex and show tits an ass. So please don't compare freddy's background based on that completly worthless film, in which I think they shouldn't have made.
The only people he was sexual towards were the tennage girls he was gonna kill and lets be honest, they WERE usually pretty attractive....They were never little girls like people keep saying. He was just a child killer. He couldn't have been a pedo because then I really would not like him....lets be honest, who's rooting for a perve like that? Most people cheer him on but if he was a pedo then things would be different....
not a sadist, only a child killer?
Everyone mentioned his looks, and while I agree from the initial preview (though to me is more realistic as aimed for), remember that most films with a heavy amount of body makeup and prosthetics now ALSO undergoe SERIOUS digital enhancing prior to release. So it is very likely that was early footage MINUS the digital enhancement and effects (skin, blood, puss etc.) As for his voice, we either get creepy burned guy (above), or Jester like goofball pervert. I will take a more serious Freddy anyday personally; While I like the original films, I always felt they were the corniest of the 80's esque horror flics. My only big question is, why does Freddy look like the victim? Is he wrongly accused? That could add a new dimension to plot for revenge. After all, why would an ACTUAL child molesting perve, kid killer need revenge really? Odd...
I don't see him as victum at all. He has been the bad guy from the beginning. It was pretty much laid on a silver platter when Heather Langencamp aka " Nancy " told why he was burned to death and it was reiterated a number of times why he is the way he is through out all 7 films, maybe a little deeper in " Wes Cravens New Night".
very true. however he is, (i too would prefer a serious freddy) i just want the character to be consistent. it's a strong question you ask, and i hope the new one addresses it. the originals were on the fence about that from the get-go.
Ok, about his voice, it sounds to me like he has the voice of someone who was engulfed in fire(yet that sweater held up pretty well, weird) and had his lips burned off completely, so one can only imagine what they'd sound like if that happened to them, and they did say something about realistic burns, that im guessing will make Freddy both horrifying to look at while keeping him human looking at the same time, instead of looking like a monster.
Alright I was not thrilled with the fact of a Freddy remake but I was willing to give it a shot. Maybe they could make the movie actually scary again like the original was. I have really tried to keep my hopes low so I don't get too dissapointed but come the fuck on. Freddy talks like a bitch with no haunting voice and that make up??? Looks like nothing scary at all. I am not bashing the movie, but the trailor sure as hell didnt help. Seriously I think on screen Freddy will look more comical than scary. Hope I am wrong about it all, but wasn't too impressed with what I saw or heard in the 1st trailor.
Freddy's back!!! I can't wait to see this freakin movie! It's gonna rock! I'm sad that Robert Englund won't be in it, but I guess it is time for something new. The only way to really do that is to start completely fresh! Kudos to Michael Bay...keep'um coming!
It actually looks pretty good...........i only hope that little soundbite of freddy's voice at the end is just a little off, and doesnt sound like that through the whole flick...that'd kinda ruin it if ya ask me
