PROJECT DETAILS:

Filming will reportedly take place somewhere in Ireland. (6/10/20)

Finnish director Anders Engström (TV credits include TabooHanna and See) is set to direct, with original producer Joel B. Michaels back to produce and script. Michaels was quoted saying: "I am overjoyed at having the unique opportunity to reimagine an updated version of the iconic film, The Changeling, that I produced so many years ago. It’s flattering to know that it proved to have inspired a rash of filmmakers that paid homage to the original film. I am excited to be working with Anders Engström who will bring his own contemporary vision to the film." (6/10/20)

Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Ghost Rider) was previously set to write and direct, with production supposedly set to begin in Venice in early 2019, but that fell through. (6/10/20)

Jeremy Lovering (In Fear) has reporetedly turned in a treatment to the producers, saying the following in a recent interview: "I'm really nervous about it, for obvious reasons. The original is an extraordinarily good film, and I’ve tried to take a kind of alternative point of view—doing the scenes you don’t see, the ones in between those that are in the film. THE CHANGELING has such iconic, much-copied sequences, and obviously loads of directors, from James Wan to [THE WOMAN IN BLACK’s] James Watkins and a whole bunch of others, happily acknowledge THE CHANGELING as a massively influential film. It’s the same producers [as the original] who want to make it, and it has been a very interesting process, but I’m still trying to decide whether it’s the right thing to do or not."

Despite no real movement with the project in years, the original producers are apparently still interested in moving forward with the right script.

Guillermo del Toro was involved as producer in the early development stages many years ago.

Focus Features was going to release this.

When Peter Medak was rumored to be returning to direct, he expressed his disinterest in the use of CGI-effects for the ghost(s) as he feels having the impression a spirit is there is more effective than actually seeing it.

Original director Peter Medak was once rumored to be helming this remake.

This project has been in and out of development for well over a decade.

This is a remake of the 1980 Peter Medak film with the same name.
