This is an overlooked Thai film that I didn't realize was worth a damn until recently when news of its sequel broke out. After reading several positive comments on the first film, I decided to finally give it a look. To my surprise, this turned out to be a good movie -- it's creative and interesting from start to finish. Also known as 13 Beloved, the film follows a broke and down-on-his-luck guy, who receives a mysterious phone call from some sort of game show that says if he kills a fly he will win money. He immediately dismisses such an appalling idea, until the person on the other line reveals information about him that no one else would know. He kills the fly and receives a notification on his phone that money has just been deposited into his account.

His next task? Eat the fly he just killed and he will win even more money. He does it and more money is sent to him. The next task (if he chooses to accept it) will officially bring him into the game, where he could win upwards of millions of Baht. Naturally the game becomes more inane and darker with each task given to him until it finally reaches the point of murder. We've got a task where he has to eat feces to one where he retrieves the rotting corpse of a man, who fell down a well. Each segment of the game is interesting and creative, keeping us viewers glued to what he's forced to do next. If he attempts to change the task or bail out from the game, he will be disqualified and all his money vanishes, leaving what he’s done up to that point meaningless.

I really enjoyed this flick -- it kept me interested and guessing as it progressed. When it came down to the final part of the game, it didn't disappoint, as we're given an unexpected twist. Some of the CGI effects are questionable, but luckily there isn't enough of it to distract the viewer from the story. We're never given much background behind the game itself, leaving a lot of questions unanswered. In fact, much of the plot-holes in the film (as ridiculous as some may be) can be dismissed by coming up with our own reasoning since nothing is really revealed as to how they know or can see so much of what happens with our lead. We can only hope that the sequel will give us some much-needed answers behind this mysterious and deadly game.

A surprisingly good and overlooked Thai horror flick. Creative and unpredictable, the film kept me glued to the screen from start-to-finish. Worth a check for something new and original.
