Basket Case 2 (1990)

REVIEWER RATING:
5/10

I knew this film wasn't anything special from the start, but I saw it anyway since it came with a batch of horror films I purchased off eBay. I saw the third film many years ago, but never bothered to check this one until now. The movie supposedly takes after the incidents that took place in the first film. Apparently Duane and his brother survived and are treated in a hospital, only to escape not-soon-after. They end up in the care of a woman who's known to help "freaks". Later on a nosy reporter goes on a hunt for Duane and his brother in hopes of getting a reward for their whereabouts.

I thought the whole thing about the movie taking place a day after what happened in the previous film was really stupid, because of the fact that it's obviously not in the 70s anymore because of the new clothes and phones and such. That's a huge plot-hole on its own right there. It was nice to see that they actually got the original guy to play Duane once more. It looks as though he aged and gained a little weight, but still looks pretty much the same. It was also good to see that they used better effects compared to the last movie and I thought it was an interesting twist to have a female version of Duane's freak brother to play as a love interesting of sorts for him.

Although the movie is interesting, it's not as dark or weird as the first movie. I would have given it a lower rating, because of the many plot-holes, but I found it to be enjoyable and funny in parts. Not as much gore as the first movie and compared to the first, it seemed like they really dumbed it down a bit.

Doesn't live up to the first movie, but is still interesting. Many plot-holes, but the effects were an improvement. Check this out if you want, but don't expect it to be much like the original.
