This is a very underrated slasher from the 80s. I read a little about the movie before seeing it and it sounded decent, but I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did. It was also very funny to see Tom Hanks in the movie, which was actually his first movie role. I notice that a lot of mainstream stars and famous faces first start out in horror films. The plot is basically about this killer who murders people who are engaged in about to get married. He sets his sights on one particular girl who is having doubts about marriage. He stalks her and kills those who get in his way.
One thing I liked about this movie was the fact the killer didn't have to wear some lame mask to kill people. All he needed was a crazy look to him. I thought the beginning of the movie was very sweet, because the killer actually kills a girl in a public movie theatre, and while she's watching a slasher movie!
The story is obviously nothing special, but I enjoyed how the killer just stalked the girl. Since the killer didn't have to wear some dumbass mask there was no 'who-done-it' theme to it, like we see a lot in slasher flicks. That really gets old and boring. The deaths weren't bad, but nothing too original. There wasn't much for gore or blood, which isn't a bad thing. I think this movie is better that way, cuz then it would just fall under all the other clichéd slasher films. I also thought the acting and directing wasn't bad.
I would have given the movie a higher-rating, but I felt that more could have been done, but other than that it was good. It wasn't too scary or suspenseful, but it was very much enjoyable in my opinion. Aside from the clichéd deaths and such, it's a pretty good slasher film that stands out on its own; especially from the 80s, where most slashers are the same.
Good underrated 80s slasher. Not as cliched as most; the killer doesn't wear a dumb mask. Tom Hank's debut is also in this towards the end. Rent this if you're looking for a good slasher.
