Hide and Go Shriek (1988)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

This is my second time seeing this film. The first time was many years back and I was left thinking that it wasn't bad, and having seeng it a second time, I still found it to be pretty decent. Sure, it's your regular 80s slasher, but it had something about it that I liked. The story starts off with a group of young teens that decide to have a small graduation party by staying overnight at a local furniture store. The sexin' and boozin' goes well until they decide to play a simple game of hide and go seek, and that's when the bodies start stackin' up. Okay, so the plot isn't all that original, but at least the film had some cool moments in it.

What I liked about the movie was the fact that it was all mainly taken place in the dark, since it's an obvious advantage for the killer to creep around and mess with the teen's heads. Another thing I liked was the fact that it was taken place in a furniture store, being an uncommon setting, especially for a horror flick. Usually films like this are simply held at someone’s house or something. The store was very huge and it made things all the more interesting. What I didn't like about the movie was the acting, which was cheesy for the most part (much like the decade), but some of it wasn't bad, but there was a few actors that ruined the movie in certain scenes. Other than that, I thought it was fine. Watching the movie brought back some good memories of hide and go seek. Too bad I wasn't able to have access to a huge furniture store like the people in this movie.

Anyway, there was a decent amount of gore and an average amount of dead bodies. The film kept you guessing as to the identity of the killer, until it all comes together to deliver a very strange twist ending. I would have given the film a lower rating, but I thought the movie had some good stuff in it and it was fun to watch.

A somewhat above average slasher flick. Has a few cool moments here and there and leads to a very strange ending. Check this film out if you can.
