Originally titled "The Freak" during production, Luther the Geek came out in the early 90's and have slipped under the radar ever since. "The Geek" is a reference to what people at the carnival used to refer to others that would be so eager for money that they'd bite the heads off chickens, and apparently audiences in the past used to be into that thing. This leads to our central character Luther, who as a child, saw a "Geek" in action and it scarred him for life.

He's sent to an insane asylum after biting the locals with his sharpened dentures (he lost his top front teeth as a kid when he was knocked over). Decades later he's released after a group of officials decide he's "sane' for one reason or another. It doesn't take long before he bites the neck of an old lady and follows a mother as she makes it back home.

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was original and interesting from the start. I didn't know what I was getting into when I first saw it, but I liked the fact that most of the movie just revolves around the mother and Luther in her farmhouse. Of course the young daughter and her boyfriend are also key factors when they show up out of the blue. Essentially there are only 4 main characters (including Luther) and a police trooper that comes into the picture later on.

The movie is fairly unpredictable since often times you're left guessing as to what happens next, which is somewhat rare in the genre. The only problem I had with this flick was the fact that Luther is so obsessed with biting the heads off chickens that he himself thinks he's a chicken, thus we have him clucking like a chicken in various scenes, until he does his infamous chicken dance towards the end. Other than that I thought this was a solid underrated horror gem.

An unknown horror flick that is surprisingly good. A simple, but solid, plot that leaves the viewers guessing as to what'll happen next. Worth a check.
