Mikey (1992)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

I've heard a lot of positive stuff about this before actually seeing it and I can see why a lot of horror fans enjoyed this little gem. Although the plot isn't original and it's predictable, it's still an enjoyable movie. It starts off pretty cool with Mikey killing off his current family. He lies to the cops and says some man with a mustache did it. Unfortunately they believe him. *shrugs*. Anyway, they put him up for foster care and soon enough a new family takes him under their wing. He seems like the perfect son at first, but things soon change when he is unpleased with a few things that occur throughout the movie.

Later on in the movie Mikey falls for an older sister of one of his friends. For some reason she kind of leads him on, only to break his heart and sets him on a rampage. Gotta admit the kid has good taste though. Some parts of the movie seemed a little silly, but for the most part it was pretty cool. He's a smart mofo with how he murdered all those people. The acting wasn't too bad and the same goes with the directing. It was cool to see Ashley Laurence from the Hellraiser movies playing a teacher in this one. You can expect to see her in the upcoming Hellraiser film.

Even though the movie is predictable from the start, it didn't quite end how I originally thought it would. I would have given the movie a higher rating, but if it had a lack of originality. This is pretty much like the Stepfather movies, except with switched roles. I'd like to see Mikey and the guy from Stepfather start a family!

A good underrated movie. Predictable and unoriginal, but still enjoyable. Has a lot of sweet death scenes and dead bodies. Check this movie out if you can.
