Motel Hell (1980)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

Ah yes, Motel Hell. I remember seeing this film for the first time late night on TNT's Monstervision many years ago. I don't know why, but I really liked the movie and it soon became one of my many "guilty pleasures." I've always had a thing for horror movies that involve people meeting up with strange families and such in the middle of nowhere and finding out their dark secret. Mwahhahaha...!

Anyway, the story is about a young girl who gets in a motorcycle accident with her boyfriend and ends up being treated and kept under the supervision of a seemingly nice farmer and his strange sister. Things seem cool and the girl begins to feel like she's part of the family until she discovers their secret garden of living human beings! Apparently the film's locally famous "jerky" is made from tasty human meat, yummy!

I like this movie. It's your typical cheesy 80's horror film - the best decade for horror in my opinion. It has some Texas Chainsaw Massacre influence, especially towards the end and that's a plus for me. There's not much for gore and the acting is cheesy, but the story is pretty original for its time. I would have given the movie a higher rating, but it's not exactly a "good" horror film, but just one you can rent if you love 80's horror and want something to waste some time with.

One of my guilty pleasures. Cheesy and fun. Worth a rent if you're into 80's horror, like myself.
