I unfortunately watched the sequel before venturing to the first, which was a horrible move on my part since it was not only a horrible movie, but it mainly consisted of clips from the first film, so it was as if I didn't even need to see the first movie. My friend finally convinced me to see it for myself and I was still not impressed. The film is about a boy who witnesses his parents being murdered in front of his eyes by a man in a Santa suit. He manages to escape and ends up in an orphanage until he turns 18. Still being terrified of anyone in a Santa suit, he is released onto the real world and gets a job at a toy shop. Things start off a little bumpy, but he eventually learns to enjoy it -- that is until Christmas. The young man is forced to wear a Santa costume for the kids, which finally pushes him over the edge. He kills off his employees and heads out on the streets on a murderous rampage, and heads towards the orphanage where he was raised.

I wanted to like this flick, but it was too painfully slow in parts for me. It starts off pretty interesting, but slows down a lot as time goes on. It held my interest for the most part, but there were certain scenes that I thought were a little too dull, thanks to the poor pacing. Things really don't start to pick up until the man goes off killing numerous people while wearing his little Santa outfit. No good scares or much for gore at all, but it does have some decent bloodshed. I would've given this movie a lower-rating, but I thought it wasn't too bad for what it was. There aren't many killer Santa flicks and from what's out there, this is one of the best of the bunch. There are 5 movies all together in this Silent Night, Deadly Night series. After part 3 I think the story pretty much strays away from the original plot. From what I can remember the sequels just get worse and worse.

One of the better Santa flicks, but a bit slow and boring in parts. Regardless, it's still a decent rent for an 80's holiday slasher.
