Spookies (1985)

REVIEWER RATING:
3/10

I don’t understand how a movie that takes three directors can be so poorly made. I'll give credit that the effects weren't too bad, but that's really the only good thing about the film, because everything else was pretty crappy. The film starts off with a group of people who just got kicked out of a party, who decides to roam the roads out in the middle of nowhere and somehow stumble upon an old mansion, which they thought to be vacant. Little do they know that an evil sorcerer lives there with his many ghouls and monsters.

The movie is filled with plot-holes, bad acting, directing, lighting, and scripting. Like I said above, the only positive thing is the makeup effects of some of the monsters. In one scene a woman gets possessed and ends up looking like something out of Evil Dead, which I thought was a bit of a rip-off, but was also kind of cool at the same time. Later on we encounter other odd creatures like some weird zombies that make farting noises for some reason and other beings that resemble those from the House series.

When we reach the conclusion of the film it's nothing special -- a girl runs away from a crap-load of zombies for like five minutes and a few other things happen. The reason I gave the movie a 3-rating and nothing lower was because of the special effects. The movie really could have been a lot better had it been better scripted and directed.

Don't waste your time with this. The story is full of holes and bad acting. If you want to see it only see it for the decent monster effects.
