The Stuff (1985)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. I knew it would be cheesy, because of the title and plot, but I didn't expect to find it so fun to watch. It has a lot of plot-holes and some resemblance to the Blob, but it's an entertaining movie to watch with friends. At least that's what I found it to be. The plot is pretty much just about this white goo-substance that seeps out from under the ground. Some guys find it and for some reason get an urge to taste it, only to find that it tastes good. It doesn't take long before it's the new desert in every home. It's just too bad that it has a mind of its own, otherwise I wouldn't mind havin' a taste myself.

The guys behind the creation of ice cream fear that this new product will wipe them out, so they hire an investigator to find out what's the secret ingredient. He ends up finding out way more than he bargained for. The "stuff" as it's called apparently makes people addicted and that's not the worst of it. I should probably stop before I give away too much. This movie is an ultimate 80s B-film. It has a silly plot and effects, but it's so fun that you just don't really care. The Blob remake is one of my guilty pleasures, so I wasn't surprised that I liked this film too.

They have some similarities in certain scenes, but I think this film had more things going on. It never really got dull in my opinion. It's just too bad they never really got into more explanation as to what "the stuff" really is. It looks like a cross between ice cream and yogurt. I would have given the movie a higher-rating, but it did have a lot of plot holes and some bad acting. Other than that it was a pretty entertaining movie. This should please people that are into cheesy B-80's films.

A really cheesy and entertaining movie. If you enjoyed the Blob remake that came out of the 80s then you'll probably like this film. Watch it with an open mind.
