This is a film that I've been curious about for a while now, as I've always been a fan of the classic Edgar Allan Poe story. The flick adds a modern-day twist to the tale, which sadly didn't really amount to much, as it turned out to be a fairly mediocre movie in the end.

Josh Lucas plays a single father with a daughter who has a rare degenerative disorder, whose luck changes after he receives a successful heart transplant and also finds love with his daughter's doctor. Sadly, his luck doesn't last very long after he notices that his heart seems to beat differently around specific people within the hospital. After a bit of research he comes to the conclusion that they're somehow connected to the death of his donor and it seems that his heart has some unfinished business with them, leading the man to take matters into his own hands.

I thought the movie was neither good nor bad -- it kept my interest and offered a semi-creative premise, but begins to fall into mediocrity and predictability as time goes on, especially towards the end. The story behind the donor's death and the people involved weren't as intriguing as they could've been, and the pic doesn't offer anything we haven't already seen before. The deaths weren't anything special and there's very little gore (unless you count a couple scenes in the beginning and end). This leads the movie's only drive to be its story, which I've already expressed to be rather bland.

An interesting, but ultimately mediocre take on what could have been a great modern-day twist on the classic Edgar Allan Poe tale. Aside from the bit about the heart beating differently with certain people, the film doesn't really offer anything we haven't already seen before. Check this if you're bored, but don't expect much.
