Tourist Trap (1979)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

I heard a lot of positive stuff on this film and it took me a while to check it out for myself, but I'm glad I did. This is one of those underrated horror films that most people haven't heard about. The story is pretty simple being about a group of teens (like usual) who come across a man who seems to live on his own at an old wax museum in the country. They end up finding out that there's a killer around the property that has special telekinetic powers.

What I liked most about this is the fact that the killer uses telekinetic powers instead of knives and such. I don't believe I've ever seen a "slasher" film where the killer had powers like that before; pretty cool and original stuff. I also liked how it's another one of those films where teens end up lost or meeting up with strange people in the middle-of-nowhere. I've always liked those types of flicks. The directing isn't bad and neither was the acting. I was surprised to see a young Tanya Roberts playing one of the teens. You may remember her as one of the original Charlie's Angels or Midge from That 70's Show. There's not much for gore and blood, but at least the death scenes weren't too bad.

Some of the scenes of the film were actually somewhat creepy, because of all the weird waxed people and dolls in the film. Good stuff. I was debating whether I should give the movie a 7-rating or not, but I finally decided to just give it a 6-rating, because it didn't have much going on as I would have liked; still a good movie either way.

A good original underrated horror film. Check this baby out.
