The franchise that simply refuses to die continues on with Last Resort-- another entry that nobody asked for. Who knows WTF is happening with the Wrong Turn movies at this point; I mean, there's barely any continuity and the timeline is just nonexistent, especially after having watched this latest installment. Despite being labeled part 6 in the series, it's actually a prequel/reboot of sorts, as the filmmakers wanted to "head in a new direction" with the storyline. Unfortunately the only thing new this had to offer was some idiotic plotline that involved the inbred family living forever (*rolls eyes*).
The story follows a group of 20-somethings tagging along with their friend Danny to a secluded old hotel resort in the backwoods of nowheresville. Apparently Danny has just inherited the darn thing and he hopes taking it over may bring more meaning to his dreary life. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to him and the group, the young male-female caretakers have their own nefarious reasons for bringing Danny on board--reasons that involve a little family loving and an introduction to the rest of the brood.
Aside from showing up to simply kill someone, One Eye, Three Finger and Sawtooth surprisingly aren't really in the movie much. Next to our leads, the spotlight is mostly focused on the young caretakers while they try to recruit Danny into the family. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since I've always felt that the series could use a break from the inbred trio and focus on a new set of characters. Sadly, the caretakers themselves aren't interesting enough to provide proper villains. Especially when all the female does is creep on people having sex and masturbate from a distance (Yup, THAT happened).
In fact they seriously amped up the sex in this installment compared to its predecessors, which seemed to go well with the formula of exploring the place before having sex and then getting killed off. That's pretty much how things go down with the group until the last 15-or-so minutes when the remaining survivors FINALLY discover something off with the place and get chased around by the inbred brothers. Speaking of deaths, there are a couple decent ones here that supply an acceptable amount of gore, but the kills seemed so far off from each other that I found myself dozing off on several occasions, because I couldn't care any less about the tiresome and uninteresting storyline.
