Demons 2

I first saw this movie after renting the first and decided to go ahead and check the sequel. Now normally sequels aren't as good as the first films, but every now and then you'll come across a movie that's better, if not, equal-to the original. This is one of those times, because not only does this movie manage to uphold a lot of what the first offered, but it also throws out some all new stuff to keep things interesting and not just the same-old stuff we saw in the first.

Italian director Lamberto Bava (son of Mario Bava) returns this time to take the story into an apartment building. After the events of the first movie, the demon infected area has been sealed off, and a movie or documentary of some sort is shown on TV that depicts four friends going over the sealed off area and into where the demons are located. While this is airing, a party is being held within the apartment building for a woman named Sally, and she just so happens to be watching TV. Before you know it, demons take care of those people who crossed over and somehow manage to escape through the TV and into Sally's bedroom. Uh oh... Sally turns into a demon and it doesn't take long before the other party-goers do the same.

Sure the story is a bit silly and there are quite a few plot-holes, but it's just a cheesy entertaining flick that shouldn't be taken seriously. Fans of the first movie will be fans of this sequel, because it pretty much has the same feel as the first had. It also has some of the same actors in it as well -- the guy that played the pimp in the first movie returns as a gym instructor, and the leader of the punk gang (Lino Salemme) returns as a security guard. We also get to see Writer/Producer Dario Argento's daughter in one of her first movie-roles as a little girl hiding from the demons.

The demon formula stays the same, but with new stuff thrown in. Later on in the movie we encounter a demon-child, demon-dog, and even a little demon creature that's a mix of something from Ghoulies and Gremlins. It makes for a very entertaining movie, because the first had basically one type of demon (except for when a special one comes out from a girl's back of course). The movie also follows another group of characters: one obviously being Sally, another group of punks, a pregnant woman and her husband, a little boy that's home alone, and so on. The same guy that did the sweet effects for the first film returns, so we're treated with more blood and gore.

Overall this is a nice addition to the first movie, and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first. There's a third addition to these demon films, but it's not very good and it's a lot different than the two previous movies were.

OVERALL

A fun movie that's just as good as the first. Keeps a lot of what made the first good, plus throws in some new material. Definitely worth a check if you'r a fan of the first.

This was a poor sequel. Now don't get me wrong, I liked it (the demon dog was especially cool), but it lacked everything the first one had; less gore, less metal, less plot, but 2X the cheese factor! OK, but weak overall. 6/10. PS- Is there anyone else out there who HATED that little demon creature just as much as I did?!

Good, but not as good as the first. The demon dog and kid were cooler than hell though. Wish it followed off right where the first ended.
