| The Last House on the Left I tried watching this movie many years ago on a VHS that I got from Blockbuster, but the tape was so messed up that the only way I could view anything on screen was to fast-forward. I obviously couldn't watch the movie, so I just gave up seeing it until now. Having viewed it I have to say that I didn't miss much. The story is about a couple teen girls who are on their way to a concert in the city. While on the way they make a stop to score some drugs (naturally), but they get mixed up with a group of convicts (also naturally). The film basically follows the group and the girls and what happens to them. There have been some controversy over this movie due to its violent nature, but I've seen more violent films. There have been many mixed reviews on this flick, some hate it, some love it, I personally find myself leaning more towards hating it, but I did find some of it pretty decent. The problem with the movie was the silly music and the fact that the movie just seemed rather silly at times -- there were a number of occasions where the girls could have escaped easily, but for some reason they didn't; silly girls. Much like a lot of films from the 70's, the acting was a little iffy at times. This being Wes Craven's first film, the directing was decent. He approved a lot over the years. I would have given the movie a lower-rating, but I thought it had its moments. It's not a necessarily bad movie, but it's not a good one either. I dunno if it's just me, but I think Wes has a weird fixation with people dying next to where they live. OVERALL Comments page 1 of 1:
that was a good movie, and this was in the early 70s, so this was way too extreme for them.
I just got finished watching this...WHAT CRAP! I mean, jeez. Where do I start?...First off, the music. Goofy as all hell, especially in comic relief scenes with the two bumbling cops; it was like a scene out of "Smokey and the Bandit" or something! Next, the characters. Mostly poor acting all around, except the ever-threatening David Hess. No one portrayed emotion (except maybe when being mutilated or humiliated). Also some crappy editing. Although I have to give it credit for the finale; very cool! I too give it a 5/10. I'd give it less but due to the fact that it was practically an accidental comedy made it too "good" to give less than a 5. There, thought I'd throw in y two cents. Oh, and sorry fans. This is just how I feel.
It's been years since I first saw this movie and it has never really bothered me, like some people I know. Movie is very slow, but a must see for Wes Craven fans.
Classic 70's horror film.I used to hate this movie when I was a kid,but now that I am older I can appreciate how brilliant this film really is.It's grainy realistic quality, almost as if you are watching a home movie,is shamelessly missing in todays slick horror films. This movie is genuinely disturbing. For those of you who think it is too slow,I think that has more to do with your attention span than the actual film itself. It represents all of our deepest fears and discomfort and actually changes you, however subtly, after watching it.This film is a psychological experiment on how much you can take and what you fear.Only the great horror films have this quality. To actually take you to another place psychologically....some place that is disturbing and perhaps some place you don't want to go.But,if you're a horror film fan then obviously you want to go there....vicariously anyway. This is what it is all about,at least for me.To be entertained is cool.....to be dissected and prodded and psychoanalyzed is the mark of a truly brilliant horror film.Ok,I'm done being pretensious now.Goodbye.
It was ok, but it made me sick, some of the graphics are more realistic than todays technology. However, this being Cravens first film I really wanted to see it. And now that I have, I don't know if I like it or hate.
One of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. A most see for any horror fan
I really like this one. It's Craven's version of Bergman's Virgin Spring, and has a genuine creepy atmosphere.
Pretty lame, see I Spit On Your Grave instead.
