| Nympha Let me start out by saying that I am absolutely butt crazy in love with Tiffany Shepis. If you've never heard of Tiffany before then we can no longer be friends because this is the hardest working girl in horror with about sixty genre titles on her resume, dating all the way back to Tromeo and Juliet. I give The Shep a lot of credit because she never turned her back on the genre even though she has the talent to break through to mainstream. She's found a niche and has embraced it. It goes without saying that the only reason I picked up Nympha was because her naughty, sex pot face was staring at me from the video store shelf. Unfortunately, a tasty actress cannot a great horror movie make. The Shep plays a nun named Sarah who gets sent to a new convent in Italy to mend her wicked ways and receive forgiveness for her torrid past. Instead she ends up knee deep in one helluva shit storm when the mother superior insists that she undergo torturous acts to rid her of her senses. Only then can she reach God...or something like that. The more procedures that Sarah undergoes, the more she seems to be in contact with the spirits of the past, who we learn about in extensive flashbacks. Now I'm not gonna sugar coat it. This movie is weird. Really effing weird. I think it was going for an artistic horror tale, in the vein of Suspiria, but failed under its own ineptness. The first hour is beyond difficult to sit through as its pace moves at the speed of a special Olympic hurdler (I know, I know...I'm going to hell for that one), and by the time things start to pick up and I was totally getting into this little flick, the credits started to roll. If the first two thirds were half as enthralling as the last third then this would have been one solid evil nun movie. Just when my eye lids began to grow heavy, my attention was caught by a gratuitous girl on girl scene. But my attention was caught for all the wrong reasons. The scene was so out of place that it was distracting. I never thought two chicks buttering each other’s muffins could feel so wrong...shame on you Nympha! The shot compositions are top notch and visually interesting, and the lighting was, at some points, beautiful. But all of this was ruined with the video format it was shot on. I've seen a lot of SOV horror films, but this was the first one that came off looking like one of those shitty BBC miniseries of a "classic" novel that your Freshman year English teacher made you suffer through. Director Ivan Zuccon has a definite talent, but may be he's making films in the wrong genre. As I mentioned earlier, the pace quickens up towards the third act and brought me in with curiosity, wondering what would happen next. All the pieces were in place for an ending of epicness...but that never came. I felt cheated. On the plus side, the acting from everyone in the small cast was more than competent. Tiffany always gives her all in every movie, no matter where the film as a whole rates on the shit meter, and Nympha is no exception. In fact, this is the first movie I've seen of hers where she's actually given something more to work with than just the slutty girl with a nice ass. She really blew me away with how she was able to elevate the, at best, mediocre material. OVERALL
