Session 9

I heard a lot of positive buzz about this movie before actually seeing it and by the looks of the trailer I knew that it would be good. Looks like I was right. The movie starts off with this small cleaning crew getting a job to clean up an old insane asylum. Everything seems well at first, but then things start to get a little weird after one of the members disappears.

I think this movie is very intelligent and innovative. The directing is well done and some scenes were pretty creepy. One scene in particular really freaked out my friend. I guess he has a thing about being alone in the dark. The acting was believable and really made the movie. It's pretty slow through most of it, but also interesting. I liked how each member of the crew went through their own madness. One would totally consume his time by listening to old patients recorded sessions, while another was crazy with greed and another was afraid of being in the dark. Each one slowly went to a small state of madness.

The ending was somewhat predictable, but still good. I was able to rent the DVD, so I checked out some of the deleted scenes, including what would have been an alternate ending. I think the ending they stuck with for the film was the better one. The other was good, but wouldn't have fit too well. I would have given the movie a higher rating, but even though I liked it, there wasn't much going on, so I figured a 7 would do. This is one of the better low-budget films to come out in these recent times. Especially in the era where Hollywood basically copycats anything that is successful

OVERALL

An intelligent low-budget film. Has some creepy scenes. A bit slow, but kept my interest. Check this movie out if you're looking for something different.

The plot was slow but effective in giving it that creeping madness vibe. It was creepy, but in a different sort of way. It is very cerebral and consuming with great acting. It has one of the eeriest sets I've seen in a while. That building is just too scary.

this is probably one of the best films that not enough people saw.
