UHM - Review - Shrooms

Shrooms is Ireland's latest stab at the genre that offers a fresh premise and could have actually been a good movie had it not delivered such a horribly-clichéd and predictable ending. So the story follows a group of friends who vacation to Ireland in hopes of camping in the woods, doing shrooms, and getting laid, and everything would have gone according to plan had they not been killed off one by one. Early on we're introduced to a number of shrooms, one of which has reached legendary status in terms of the effects it offers the user, which of course, is eaten by one of our leads. The movie could have gone a number of ways, especially with the fact that our shroom expert explained how natives believed certain types could give the user foresight (seeing the future) or even open a portal to another dimension. This leaves the story open to a lot of possibilities and potential in being a fun original horror film, which is what it seemed to be until we reach the climax.

Much like a lot of films, the action doesn't pick up until 30-or-so minutes in, after the lead characters have been established -- a local shroom expert, veteran druggie, nice girl, slutty chick, religious girl, and asshole jock. After they take the shrooms and a local ghost story is told about the massacre of a religious group at a nearby house, people turn up missing and they come to the conclusion that there's someone (or something) out there stalking and killing them off. The question of whether it's the shrooms or if it's really happening comes into play, while one member of the group (that took the legendary shroom) is granted the ability to see into the future and who the next victim will be. There's a decent amount of blood, but not much as far as gore goes. We're only shown brief shots of these killers (assuming there are more than one), so we never get a full shot of'em, but what was shown is actually kind of creepy. Sadly, the movie is a perfect example at how a potentially good horror film can be ruined solely on a bad ending. Regardless, it was a fun ride while it lasted.

OVERALL

A potentially original horror film that could have gone a number of ways, but instead, delivers the same-old hack-n-slash and horribly-clichéd ending. Regardless, it's a decent flick up until the end bits.

Loved The Beginning..Especially the dude who was talking to the cow, (his death was fucked up) After that, everything went pretty much downhill. There wasn't alot of gore, the acting was alittle off...and of course the terrible ending which had no explination. The RATING 5.5..( Just bcuz of the beginning & the Music was creepy)

I dont know about everyone else but i thought this one was pretty well done. it offers some decent original scares. the acting wasnt unbearable, the monsters were pretty scary, and it was dark. what else do you need? really?

A BORING FILM WITH A LITTLE TWIST AT THE END THAT EVEN IF YOU WERE ON DRUGS YOU CAN SEE COMING .NOT EVEN SCARY ,COULD OF BEEN DONE ALOT BETTER EVEN THOUGH THE SUBJECT MATTER SOUNDS DIFFERENT YOUVE SEEN IT ALL BEFORE , BUT DONE BETTER SCORE 1/10

i went to see this fil last night and thought it COULD have been a REALLY good scary movie but instead was RUINED by the awful acting and even worse script! !! the story was pretty decent and apart from the CONSTANT use of the words 'its just a trip' and 'shrooms' the film was pretty scary in parts but i dont think it could decide if it wanted to be a comedy or not?? sum creepy scenes including the bad guys but lacked tension and substance and when a scary part came along it was cut at all the wrong times so you never really get to see anythin!

I agree with the kid below....They need to make movies about the " Unknown" I guess you could say..The shit people are afraid to talk about and the shit that you would never think you would see on film....We need some new concepts in the movie industry....I see the same shit over and over...I wanna be blown away!!!!!!! A horror movie bout trippin on shrooms??!! HELL YEAH u know that will get an audience!!

Mushrooms or Magical Mushrooms are great but, a bad trip in the woods could be come so crazy. As a hibitual user of magic mushrooms I know that this movie is going to be bad ass. In 2007 and 2008 I hope to see horror movies that no body has hever seen and no body expects to see, this is the perfect example.
