The Warning

Before actors Jack Palance and Martin Landau won their Oscars they starred in various flicks including some cheesy 80's horror. Sure we're aware of the interesting 1982 slasher Alone in the Dark, but did you know the duo also starred together in The Warning? I sure didn't! Hell, I didn't even know this movie existed until I stumbled upon it one day. The fact that it has two other alternate titles like Alien Warning and It Came Without Warning didn't help matters.

Leaning towards the sci-fi genre, this flick follows a couple as they fall in the middle of an alien's sick plan to harvest human bodies using weird living frisbees. Wait, wait, it's not as weird as it sounds. Apparently these "frisbees" are small alien creatures that stick on their victims and suck their blood. The way their tentacles stick into the victims is pretty crazy lookin'. Martin Landau plays crazed war-veteran Fred Dobbs, who also happens to be the clinched old guy that foreshadows our hero’s impending doom. Jack Palance also stars as the tough (of course) Joe Taylor, who has dealt with the aliens before and offer aid to our leads. I liked this movie; it’s enjoyable cheesy 80's fun with a solid cast and an interesting story.

Although throughout most of the film all we see are the frisbee aliens attachin' themselves to their victims, we do get a glimpse of the alien behind this all towards the end, but the fact that most of the movie is during the night makes things a bit hard to see; especially with the fact that I saw an old VHS copy. It's good to see an interesting horror flick to come out of the 80's that doesn't involve a man in a mask or a stranger with a knife. The movie doesn't have a lot in terms of gore, but it does have its fair share of blood and decent make-up effects.

OVERALL

A surprisingly decent 80's scifi-horror flick with a solid cast and an interesting story
. Worth a check if you can find this.
