Rob Zombie's Halloween: Unrated Director's Cut - 7/10 - a vast improvement over the shoddy, sloppily edited theatrical cut. Though it still suffers from a lackluster "copyright infringed" third act, an excess of trashy, cockamamie dialogue and banal performances from both Scout Taylor-Compton and Sheri Moon, this version of the ill-advised remake is much easier to consume and, believe it or not, works quiet well as a modern day companion piece to John Carpenter's '78 classic.

One thing that bugged the hell out of me: WHAT'S WITH THE "TRICK OR TREAT" TITLE CARD HALFWAY INTO THE THRID ACT?!

I'm giving this 2 points. One being for Elisha Cuthbert being the hottest girl on the planet and the second for having the grossest scene I've ever seen in my life; the one where the killer guy puts a bunch of flesh and ears and random body parts in a blender, mixes it up and then force feeds it to her. It doesn't sound that bad describing it but it hella turned my stomach.

An old 80s try at horror. I have Netflix so i thought i would try it, what the hell. What junk, had a granny in there that had incest with her son and had a freak kid who killed everyone he saw. Then her nephews come to visit and she drugs one and has sex with him, i was like, NO WAY, it was sick. Some scenes were discusting, but really fake.

Black Christmas (original) 5.5/10 SPOILERS BELOW

Not really sure why a lot of people really liked this film. Wasn't all that great in my opinion. I found it funny how these college kids were alcoholic, chain smoking, balding, old men and women. And the brief snippets of "comedy" (like the sorority mother and her 7 min. talks to herself/ police pranks on each other/ talkative search party members) slowed the film and took away and and all suspense. The only thing I found eerie was the phone calls. That shit would creep me out.

The Burning is basically a F13 clone but with much better gore, I really liked how the guy killed like 6 kids at a time instead of killing them one by one.

Madman of course has always been and still remains my favorite example of pure 80's cheese. The horrible score, acting, dialogue, etc just mix together so perfectly.

Don't you love watching like R rated movies you saw when you were a kid for a second time and realizing when you first saw it as a kid you had NO idea what the fuck was really going on?

Halloween I and II

Halloween 78 is a boring crapfest made by a director whose whole career is based off a luck of the draw and being carried by Debra Hill. Halloween II was alittle bit better simply because the score isnt as stagnant. Nevertheless, the first two films in that series are kinda eh. They created an icon but the movies themselves are insanely average.

Cat People (1982) 6/10
Might be a 5 because it's very weird. Plus the blonde was alot hotter than the cat chick.

Just watched that too. I like the weirdness of it, I remember being tripped out when I was a kid. I like the cat chick better because she's more exotic, but the blonde has awesome breasteses:nod:.

movie about a bunch of porn stars...i mean "college students" fending off inbred cannibals, at a remote cabin in the woods-- somewhere in Ireland. sat down to watch not expecting much and that's exactly what i got. Jenna Jameson was given top-billing in cable description which is the only reason i wanted to see it. she's in like 2 scenes....

Saw IV - 6/10 - The first big let-down of the franchise. Fails to illicit the intensity and cringe-factor of previous installments, all in part due to the sloppy, uninspired screenplay, from the genre’s newest scripting duo Patrick Melton and Mark Dunstan, that ceases to deliver the gory goods and defies WAY too much logic (even for a Saw film). Bousman’s directorial flair and strong performances from Bell and Lyriq Bent keep the film from being a total waste, though one can’t help but wonder how much better things would have been with Wan and Whannell on the payroll as writers. Proof that contest winners don't always make the best professional screenwriters. Unfortuantely, they'll be back for Saw V and VI.

The Invasion - 7/10 - Like Ferrara's version was when released in early '94, this modern-day retelling of Jack Finney's classic sci-fi/horror hybrid story is receiving a whole lot of unfair bashings from critics and fans alike. Can't see the real reason though (other than a rushed third act w/ an overly optimistic ending). Kidman's performance is intriguing, as is current "Bond", Daniel Craig. The pacing is spot on with some rather effective suspense sequences thrown throughout the first and second acts. And the whole "viral" nature of the alien epidemic is a much appreciated departure from the "pod people" of the previous adaptations. Like it or not, the film is a product of its troubled times. A rather effective one at that. Isn't that the whole purpose of a Body Snatchers film?

Its good to see that there are people besides me that like silent horror movies.

"The Witches" was a brilliant silent film!
I also must admit, the older ones are the better ones...no blood or gore, just lots of atmosphere and some genuine creepy moments.

Even the older "talkies" are the best...

* The Lodger - b/w film about a boarding house that might just be housing Jack the Ripper.

* The Spiral Staircase - still has one of the creepiest "eye peeking out from behind the door" scenes to date.

* Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde - the one with Spencer Tracey (he's brilliant in Captain's Courageous if anyone here has seen that!)

* The Old Dark House - borderline between silent and talking era, great early haunted house flick

* The Haunting - just a well done film, twice as creepy as the remake due to the fact that you're forced to use your imagination...something sadly lacking today.

And there's so many more...nice to see that some folks still like things the old fashioned way. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a little senseless blood and violence now and then, but I figure we were blessed with imaginations for a reason, and a lot of filmmakers today seem to forget that.

The Host - Seeing this after Cloverfield made it enjoyable with its humorous elements and equally compelling characters. The smooth camera work and not as much mystery around the monster helped (not that Cloverfield's camera work made it bad).

Sunshine - Don't really know if this would fall solely under horror (Sci-Fi Horror ?) But I Liked it. It is clear where it draws inspiration from but still has elements of its own. I liked a fresher end of the world story that dealt more with science over action. Really well built story. Only thing I can say I didn't like was the supernatural element with the antagonist in the end. Did love how he was a religious fanatic though.
