I've been on a huge Police trip lately, such a jaw droppingly brilliant band. Especially their first and second album...Outlandos d'Amour and Regatta de Blanc.

Agreed...it's funny reading about them.

They fucking hated each other towards the end...and man was Sting a prick.

Here's an excerpt about a song from their album Zenyatta Mondatta.

"Perhaps due to the lack of time for writing lyrics, the record has three instrumentals, "Voices Inside My Head", "The Other Way of Stopping", and the Grammy-winning "Behind My Camel". The latter was guitarist Andy Summers' first entirely self-penned composition, and it was not popular with the other members of the band. According to Sting, "I hated that song so much that, one day when I was in the studio, I found the tape lying on the table. So I took it around the back of the studio and actually buried it in the garden." Allegedly, Sting was so uninterested in the piece that he refused to play it. Andy Summers managed to coax Stewart Copeland into recording the bit as a duo, and then overdubbed the bass line himself. One can notice that the bass does sound different in this recording when compared to the rest of the album. Since the recording later won the band a Grammy award, it created an amusing situation where Sting would receive an award for a performance he actually did not make."

Sting is an incredibly, multi-dementionally, talented musician...and yes, back in the day with The Police, he was a prick. I recently got Live Aid on DVD...has a classic performance by them on it....among many others.

Yeah..towards the end the whole band was volatile but Copeland and Sting fought alot.

Got another gem off of their bio on Wikipedia.

"His relationship with band founder Stewart Copeland began to deteriorate, with the two reputedly coming to blows on some occasions. One notable fight occurred during an interview backstage, just after Stewart proclaimed, 'How about footage of me whooping Sting? That'd be interesting.' The increasingly strained partnership was further stretched by the attendant pressures of worldwide fame, conflicting egos, money, and publicity."

Hilarious...I'd love to see that footage.

I don't think that such a great band will ever get back together...such a shame really.

"In 1992, Sting wed Trudie Styler. Summers and Copeland were invited to the ceremony and reception. Aware that all band members were present, the wedding guests pressured the trio into playing, ultimately performing "Roxanne" and "Message In A Bottle". I remember I saw on VH1 I think on their Behind The Music that Copeland hated Sting so much that during their performances he would put his drum and cymbals in a way so that he wasn't able to see Sting.
