wow....never been a big Hellraiser fan to be honest but I for some reason never thought they'd touch this one. I can't see anyone else being Pinhead though.

Totally unnecessary, but it could be interesting with Clive writing and the right director.

Lets take a look back in time.
In the late 90s, some people complained the horror genre was ruined by Scream and its parade of copycats afterwards that lasted up until probably 2000-01.
Yet here we are now well in the mid section of this decade and this is what we have. A trend involving Remakes/Restarts and Prequels. Most of which are shadows of their original counterparts. So I guess the question is, which would you rather have because originality died long ago, least on the mainstream circuit folks.
Hit movies like Scream in the 90s that spawned alot of mediocre films afterwards much like Halloween, Friday and Nightmare which were jewels of the 80s mixed in with alot of copycats in the middle?
or...
The step by step Remaking, Reimagining of every major horror franchise known to date?
Gotta pick a poison somewhere along the line.

god I hated the "scream" craze that his in the 90s. I mean I loved Scream itself and I dug Urban Legend too but MAN there was some crap back then. I do miss a good slasher though. But bring back the undead killers damn it.

Or just watch the couple horror movies that come out once a year that may have a similar theme but atleast tries to be something beyond the Hollywood trend.
There are more options than teen-slashers and remakes.

I'm not surprised by this news at all.Which is probably why i'm not that upset about it.At least barker is writing the movie.I kind of would like to see what kinda effects and creatures barker could fit in the hellraiser story with todays make up artists and special effects guys though.

When I first read the title of this post, I almost died inside. But even though I really love the original Hellraiser and think it shouldn't be touched, I'm actually kinda excited about this because Clive Barker is writing it. I mean, he's the creator, so he obviously knows what he's doing. This definitely has a chance of being a good thing. I just hope he keeps it slow, dark and atmospheric like the original, instead of throwing in a bunch of special effects and having pinhead popping up every two seconds just to keep the modern audiences happy :dsp:

Another pointless remake unless Clive is invovled somehow either in writing or something.

You all know my stance on remakes...they are the shit on the bottom of my shoe and on any other account I'd be extremely pissed that Hollywood is thinking about touching my favorite horror movie, but for the simple fact that Clive Barker, one of the most fantastic writers of our time and creator of the original is on board to write this and be part of the production team, I'm willing to give this a shot. But Doug Bradley IS Pinhead.

This is an atrocity!!! But like others have said, with Barker writing it may turn out good. But a different pinhead might ruin it for me.

I am not one to hate on every remake to ever come out. But I gotta say I'm against this one, number 1 Doug Bradley is pinhead, noone else. 2. Yeah Clive Barker is the writer but how many great scripts have been turned into shitty movies??? A lot.

Just pointing out whats going on.
If anything, two outta of the 3 are much more prevelant than the other and both have weakened the genre considerably. Some people might have a hard time believing that as they place most of the blame on Scream for anythings that happened with the genre over the last 10 years which is unfair at best.
Far as im concerned, both share equal blame at this point.
I think Nightmare on Elm Street is the only horror film with an iconic character that's left to remake isn't it?
Oh well. Hopefully with a remake of Hellraiser we'll get a good DVD of the original. And I hope Clive DOESN'T call Pinhead Pinhead. I hate that name. He isn't even called that in the original. He's called "Lead Cenobite" in the credits and his name isn't referenced in the film. "Pinhead" too silly for a serious hardcore horror film. "Oh he's got pins in his head. I get it. Pinhead. Hahahaha." This is what happens when you let fans contribute. You get stupid stuff.

I would be pissed if they remade this. This was my all time favorite movie growing up and it still is. No one else can be Pinhead, but Doug Bradley. They should just make a better sequel.

I can't see any remake of this ruining Hellraiser, as its progressively worse sequels have already done it.
But way to go with originallity Hollywood. :dsp:

And anyone else being Pinhead or Lead Cenobite as some like to say other than Doug Bradley, would be like Robert Englund not being Freddy Kruger.

They'll tone it down. No way will the cenobites/cube be tearing people apart with chains hooked into their skin, or 'Jesus Wept' make it onto the screen now, not even with Clive Barker onboard.

first off i agree with all of you. most remakes are shit. but barker has promised alot of things and usually doesnt deliver so im not really going to cry about it now. ill actually wait until ive seen a trailer to worry about it. ive been waiting .. what 15 years for the nightbreed sequal that he has promised? the tortured souls movie? weaveworld? the harry damour movie/lord of illusions sequal? as well as books that he has been pushing off and waiting to write. all of these barker has promised to do yet lately hes not really doing much. paintin, producing and writing childrens books.

When I first read the title of this post, I almost died inside. So did I.
They + are = they're.
If we think of the apostrophe as a plus sign then nothing but good will come of it.
It seems like Barker was told it would be made. Period. I can't blame him for wanting to take the part that he is. Further, it looks like he wants to make Pinhead undeniably dead in order to avoid a new chain of sequels. That works for me.
Looks like that whole 'taking a break from everything to finish Abarat" was proven to be a lie. Again. That's my only disappointment.

If they remake this maybe they could do a better job with the casting. The acting was good and all, but you had people with British accents and then people (other than the father and daughter) with American accents. Kinda weird. Other than that, the original is a great film.

I don't think Hellraiser should ever be touched. Hellraiser is, in my opinion one of the greatest horror films of all time. I am interested to see this movie, since Clive is writing it. However if Doug Bradley isn't Pinhead, I will be severly dissapointed. Unlike the Halloween re-imagining by Rob Zombie (which I think needs to be done, since I hated every Halloween after 2), I don't think Hellraiser needs to be re-made.

I fear for the role of Pinhead... it will be hard to adjust to a new face. Still with Barker in the background, I have more hope for this remake than a great many I heard being discussed lately.

No Pinhead actually has merit. As long as they are rewriting to compensate, avoiding the whole 'who will fill the pin covered shoes' question might be the best way to pull off the remake. Though if they just edit Pinhead out and put in another cenobite as the figurehead with almost exact role/lines, it'll suck. :movies:

Fucking awesome! Are they going to make it PG13 as well? Because I mean afterall Blood & Gore are overrated and only sick people want that shit. It's all about how deep the characters are, I want to feel sorry for them AND it has to have a good story! Maybe Pinhead won't be in war soldier but an emo rocker
in all seriousness though, Hellraiser is dead. So remake might spark its return. Look what they did with Batman 4 or so movies in they started over.
