Dawn of the Dead
The Amityville Horror
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween
Friday the 13th
The Evil Dead
The Hills Have Eyes
These are all remakes or soon to be remakes of movies that can be considered "classic" horror flicks.. When you mention classic horror flicks, the usual 80's movies come to mind. What one classic horror flick/franchise isn't included? ANOES.
If the recent rash or remake success tells us anything it's that we should expect the inevitable.. of course, nobody could ever play Freddy Krueger like Robert Englund, right? Well you can probably expect a new talent to be in there when this happens. Englund is getting up there in age and may not be able to fulfill the physical requirements for too much longer.
We may not see this for a few years, maybe even a decade.... But you can guarantee that this will have a re-imaging or a remake or something along those lines....
How do you think you will feel when this happens?

I think in order to remake a NOES you need Englund in it. But in order to remake something you need new actors and etc. Ill check it out...but it wont beat the original IMO.

Wont care. A remake may be shitty, but it honors the original (most likely in a bad way)

I was reading something on an ANOES remake and it said Englund was not in favor of it. I cant recall what website it was but something to ponder.

Englund could have a cameo, but I don't think he would HAVE to play Krueger in a prequel. new series, new monster.
I think the remake is on hold because of the alleged prequel. we have no control over remakes. everything will be remade for the sake of cash. Hellraiser-I'm not sure on my feelings for this one. remake-no, Clive writing it-yes. 50/50 right now.

We know how Craven is about them, as long as you got the money honey he's got the time.
Part of the original's charm was how gritty and low quality it looked. I've never been a real damner of remakes, but I just don't think I could watch this one.

When it comes to remakes, people act kinda retarded... "OH GOD! THEY'RE REMAKING <whatever movie> IT'S GONNA SUCK!!! IT'S GONNA RUIN THE ORIGINAL!!! THEY'RE KILLING HORROR WITH ALL THESE REMAKES!!! BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! "
Puh-lease!!!
If it entertains me, I don't really give a damn if it's a remake or not.

Look at it this way.
15-20 years from now.
Scream, Saw and Blairwitch will be remade.
Nothing is untouchable IMO.
Inevietably things die out, but the movie industry can go forever IMO. All they need is new faces to plug in the holes for every new generation and they make their money. It was no different yesterday than it will be tomorrow.

Honestly, I have to AGREE with you. Regardless of how the remake turns out, the original is still there, it always will be there, it's not like they are George Lucas and re-edit and addnew scenes in. Good example, Zombies HALLOWEEN, no carpernter music, so what. Keep in mind it's ZOMBIES halloween, i just wanna see the damned movie. Im not losing sleep over the "destruction" of a remake, it's just something that isn't THAT upsetting. NOES may be cool if remade, heck with the new technology it may be really cool, if the right writer and director came along, go for it, you all know youll see it anyway. I love the people that protest remakes, then get on this board after they come out and say how the remake sucked. Then why did u see it if you were protesting it? EVERYONE on this board will see HALLOWEEN, HELLRAISER ETC.

The remake brigade has already crossed the line with Halloween so raping NOES is the next logical step. Of course I'll end up seeing them both since I'm a hopeless horror nut.

His ideas are crazy, but interesting. They are, however, completely wrong for a Halloween flick. I'd love to see Zombie make a fucked-up serial killer flick that has nothing to do with Halloween with all of the craziness of his Halloween script (yes, even the animal torture/masturbation thing).
Back on topic, NO ENGLUND=NO NOES. He made that character. He made that franchise. Anything NOES without him is sacrelige. PERIOD.
Why not make some NEW MOVIES with NEW CHARACTERS and NEW IDEAS?

Actually, that's not true with everybody. Some people on here, like myself, boycott the remake because we don't want to help the film industry to sweep in the money and want the remake era to stop. I get annoyed with people who say that I will end up going to see it, and come on here and say how much it sucked, but I'm not one of those people, and I'm sure there are many others on this board who aren't either.
As for a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, I would refuse to watch it. In my opinion, Freddy Krueger is untouchable. Robert Englund is the only man who can play him and give him that vicious yet darkly humorous personality. I would like a prequel, but that will be hard to squeeze through the wringer due to the fact that Freddy killed children, and the masses don't like to see the deaths of innocence. I personally think that, if done right, a prequel would bring back the vicious nature that Freddy had in the original film. He's not just the funny, wise cracking burned dude that kills teens in their dreams, he was once a real and terrifying person who got off on destroying the innocents of a small town. I think that film should be made rather than a remake.
However, once Robert Englund passes away, I fear they MIGHT wait a year before making a remake, and that's IF we're lucky.

Sorry to say, but just because a few people choose to ignore the movie doesn't mean it's sales will suffer.
BTW, I feel that Englund is famous for the role of Freddy because of later sequels like 3-6... In the first 2 films, Freddy does not receive a whole lot of screen time and he surprisingly doesn't really say that much.
If the series stopped after 2 films, Englund wouldn't be as well known for the role IMO.
RustedChainsaw

Maybe not, but he'd still be considerably famous.
vampirehunter d
03-10-2007, 05:37 PM
RC's right. For Englund to get more famous, not only would he have had to portray Freddy, but also get breast implants, pose for "Playboy," shave his head and marry an 80-year-old millionaire, then get his own "reality" show where he shows the world how great it is to be a has been celebrity that garnishes so much undeserved attention.

I really don't think they're wont be a remake or ANOES because
its more along the lines of a "Good 80's" Horror flick, and its pretty
recent and consistent, unlike such other horror flicks and for its consistently for
coming out since the 80's I don't feel it wont be remade.

Perhaps people are looking at a NOES remake the wrong way... maybe if they take the concept and turn it towards a darker view, replace Robert Englund, and cut out 99% of the bullshit assinine one-liners, maybe... just maybe... it will be the first Nightmare on Elm Street flick that is really a Horror Movie...

He was still kind of goofy, pulling off his face to reveal a skull, those long arms.
I bust into laughter everytime I see him get pounded in the stomach with the sledgehammer. It's like Home alone. John Hughes owes this movie some credit.

Part one is a fairly original horror flick, which even at the time, was of a rare breed. It still holds up as a classic today.
Part 3 is just fun. Some creative visuals and I for one enjoy the one-liners.

It is sad that all this era really has to offer is a flood of unnecessary remakes. It is amazing that this era has produced more remakes than any other era in the history of films. Originality is dead in Hollywood and all they are looking for is the quick, easy buck. That is why most remakes suck donkey ass. Studio execs can care less about the actual project. They care about name recognition that will sell the film not quality. This is why we end up with shit remakes like the recent Halloween movie, for example.

I remember a few years back hearing a rumor about having a movie with Freddy passing the tourch to a new younger Freddy somehow.Studio exec's were afraid that Englund was getting to old to play the character and they figured there was a lot more money to be made from the franchise yet.

I remember a long time ago, hearing Robert Englund tell some local DJ that he wouldn't mind having someone take his heir in the series. I myself wouldn't mind seeing another sequel after how FvJ ended. Freddy still has a head, so he still has power. He should be possessing people or something.
As for everyone wanting it to be "dark".. ghey. Hollywood's idea of "dark" is a goth kid who's got social issues and has it out for everyone. I don't need to see that shit.

Going back and remaking the old movie actually wouldn't bother me that much if Englund were to play it, but I just can't picture anyone else as Freddy since he IS one of those villians whose face you can see. I'd rather they just make a sequel to Freddy Vs. Jason and then a traditional NOES sequel (not a goofy one though like fucking Freddy's Dead) and end it there.
I don't want any of this prequel crap. Why? Because a prequel is either going to be a completely different movie and show us stuff before he died which we have already seen a lot of through Freddy's Dead and other movies OR it's going to be after he died and in that case might as well just be another sequel.

I agree for overall movies, but my favourite Freddy is from Nightmare On Elm Street 2 just because of the fact that he seemed darker and more evil in it than any of the other movies, including New Nightmare.
What did you think of the second one?
It had its moments so I didn't hate it. Main thing I didn't like about it was the characters in it but I did like how it had Nancy's diary yadda yadda yadda.

Big difference is the actor. Halloween, Fthe13th etc etc had diffrent people playing the main character through out. Two I can think of Hellraiser and ANOES used the same actor throughout. I dont think it can be done with the same actor, because that is them. I think hellraiser is using Bradley though. Phantasm can be on the list also.

It's definitely an insult to fans and to Robert Englund that Platinum Dunes hasn't asked Robert to play Freddy yet.
If you're a Freddy fan, please sign our petition to keep Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare Remake.
Also please help spread the word about this petition. Many fans feel the same way I do and now it's time to attempt to stop this. It's too early for Robert to retire this role. He should at least have one final film as Freddy....let's make it happen and let Platinum Dunes and New Line know how we feel here! We will never know the outcome, unless we try.

Also, here's a protest video i made that you should check out if you haven't yet....
