This movie really surprised me. When I first saw the trailers I wasn't very interested in it since it just seemed like another easily forgettable serial killer flick with a few big names in the cast. Now, having seen it, I have to say that I was sorely mistaken. This was a very creative, intriguing, and addictive film right from the beginning. Costner and William Hurt's convos back and forth were played out brilliantly and the fact that we're merely given subtle hints about Mr Brook's past and how many people he's killed made the character all the more interesting.

The only problem I had with the flick were some of the scenes involving Demi Moore, which I felt went on a little too long at times. Otherwise, I enjoyed this movie and recommend those that might have shrugged it off or missed it at the theaters to definitely give it a check when it hits DVD. Supposedly this may be the first of a planned trilogy (according to Costner), but we'll see if a sequel pans out in the future.

7/10

Would have been a lot better without the tacked-on shoot-out/car chase scenes, Demi Moore subplot, and the standard dumb shit you see in bad action movies, like for example a lone cop seemingly investigating a serial killer by herself.

Movie was half and half for me.

The movie had no point. In fact, the only point in the theater at all was in my pants whenever Demi graced the screen.

When it ended all I could think was, "Yeah, and?"

I'm with fright I was expecting the standard summer thriller but this one was pretty good. Some shots, well every shot, with Demi could have very well been taken out of the movie. Come on she fought off a monster who was supposed to be jacked up on roids. Really dumb.

Anyway really cool movie.

3 outta 4

Yeah, right before she was tossed from a moving vehicle and landed through the windshield of a car only to walk away with a few scratches.

I still watch more foreign than I do mainstream, but nobody ever notices my posts in the Foreign Movies forum since most of'em don't even get replies :dsp:

I thought this was a really cool flick. And I'd love it if the idea of a Mr. Brooks Trilogy was in the works. So much was shown but left unanswered.

SPOILER-ISH
ie - His whole daughter's story line. I'd like to see that further.

Just saw this and it it was pretty damn good. I never thought Kostner would be very effective in this type of role but he really is awesome with his subtle craziness. One of the best thrillers I've seen in a while and one scene in particular really caught me off guard and blew my mind.

This movie's great, I couldn't get over it when I first saw it in theaters (lucky I decided to) and recommended it to all my friends. Costner's alter-ego could be, if expanded into a trilogy, one of the best thriller/horror personas of the decade, IMO.

I'd go even higher, 8/10.

My problem is i need to lower my expectations on all movies like i did when i saw the preview for this one.. If i can do that i'm pretty sure i could walk out of any movie some what satisfied.

The Brook's boys played well of each other and the way Marshall was presented worked nicely for me.
