It's not really that common anymore for movies to have truly surprising endings, both in terms of plot twists and just surprising events. But a lot of horror movies are trying to, like in Hide and Seek where we find out at the end that Robert De Niro had a split personality, I think it lost its validity as a seriously surprising ending because it's been used a million times. I think the last horror movie I saw that really had a surprise ending was Cry Wolf (although it's probably debatable as to whether that was a horror movie or not) and Saw, but yeah, my point is that it's been a while since a movie came out that had a shocking and original ending like Psycho did or any of the great classics.
I think the surprise ending is kind of a dying element in horror and it's one of the things that made classic horror so classic, so what're the movies with genuine "oh shit" endings for you?

The top two surprise endings for me are Sleepaway Camp and The Wicker Man.
Both blew me away.

hliarious. After the twist was revealed, the guy stuck in the closet still didnt know about it and was crying and screaming. That part had me rolling

Recent French movie 'Ils' or 'Them' has a surprisingly original surprise ending. Well it's about 3/4 of the way through. Don't read up on it - just watch it.

Another surprise ending I liked was Wes Craven's 'Deadly Blessing'. Again the surprise comes a little before the end but I think it worked. Underrated movie IMO.

Another is 'The Skeleton Key' - that was a killer suprise ending and I didn't see it coming at all and it actually made the movie.

Not necessarily a horror but def a thriller - 'Dead Of Winter' from 1987 starring Mary Steenburgen has a clever ending and is a pretty enjoyable movie.

(spoilers on endings obviously)

Original NOTLD. Kind of expected someone to live but when everyone died, I was like "oh..."

And not really horror but kinda, The Village had a surprising ending in my opinion. So did The Sixth Sense.

Ginger Snaps 2. The ending was f-ed lol.

I wasn't too shocked by the whole reveal, i was more surprised by the actual ending.

The sixth sense for sure. Never saw it coming and felt like the biggest dumb ass when it did.

I also was blown away by the original Saw ending.

Was it a split personality or was he possessed? Because we see at the end the little girl has the same problem after her father dies.

I think it was supposed to be a mental problem.

Jason Goes to Hell
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (I felt so stupid)
unfortunately, the endings to the first two Saw movies were ruined for me because someone told me what happened.

Cry wolfd ending was too similar to April Fools..

Anyway:

ROTLD ending I dug, same for the ending to The Mist.

I liked the sixth sense ending, but hated every dreaded piece of shit M. Night has done since and tried to replicate.
