View Full Version : HACKSAW: Documentary of a Psycho Killer
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i50/TAjohansen13/HACKSAWteaserposter.jpg
The teaser poster for my film, which I am currently filmming at this time, I just got done with a chainsaw scene two days ago, and I now only have three more scenes to shoot. I haven't taken photos of the previous scenes, but I'll be sure to get shots from the cannibal scene. Again, I will be distributing this film to Brain Damage Films...hey, they're a good gore company, and they have some great films there too even if they're just gore flicks.
Title: HACKSAW: Documentary of a Psycho Killer
Starring: Toby Johansen, Joe Vita, Rachel Johansen, John Otterbien, Ashlea Glaser, and Muggle as "Gus the puppy".
Plot: Police in the town of Forest Mills have uncovered a video tape found in the crime scene of the Forest Mills Killer, Dillon Mason, who is still at large to this day, but we the audience get to watch the horrific detail the psychotic maniac has recorded in his video tape diary. Dillon Mason was once a nice, average kid, until his doctor had indicated that Dillon will show signs of skin cancer in his later years, but Dillon's mother was too stubborn to accept it, but when Dillon had started to develop the flesh-decaying disease, his friends, his girlfriend, his teacher, everyone had abandoned him because of his cancer, and now Dillon is willing to do something about it, as he remains alone in his old house, thinking to himself. Soon after, the psychopath tracks down and kidnaps the ones who had done him wrong and takes them down to his basement to torture them and to seal their fate with unbelivable brutality! What more could this sadistic killer be hiding?! Just slip this video into any player you have and find out...at your own risk.
There's lots of descent gore within this flick and I'm sure this could be a goody little b-horror movie out there for you guys and gals if you're all really into psychotic freaks. And like I said, this is the teaser poster...for now at least, because I'll be working on the DVD cover (which will look nothing like this)...but that AFTER we finish the movie. I still have to get that big-breasted girl back here to redo that blood splashing scene too...plenty of tits in this film, just not bare, sorry XP
I'll post more on this as it comes along...
Here are the latest photos of what I took with the cannibal scene and the art gallery scene where Dillon used human blood for his paintings, you'll see some corpses too of the remaining victims he murdered, ENJOY!

Cool, man, let us know when it's done and online. Maybe a trailer soon?
I'm sending it to Brain Damage Films, so it will not be featuring online at any time soon, if they want it, but I will make a trailer for it soon, I just have to go back on one severing shot to shorten up and the opening sequences with two people dressed as goat people, and then we just need to slide in the sounds, music, trailer, "The Making of" featurette, DVD menus and to duplicate the DVD for the cast and crew and one for Brain Damage Films and another to Copyright Offices, and I'm home free! But I WILL have a trailer on here, so keep your eyes pealed.

If Brain Damage is a bust try sending it to Sub Rosa Studios.
Also if I can make a suggestion, for the DVD cover art the blood coming from the head on the ground could use some color adjustment as its to bright compared to everything else, especially on the bottom of the picture.

I've just watched Killing Spree and I thought it was great to watch, especially with the gore siminare. I've always loved Brain Damage Films though...but if they don't take it I'll see what SRS treats it.

It's actually suppose to look like that, especially with the shinning description is has when you start to see something in it, I just though that kind of effect with that pool of blood would be kind of flashy. I really don't want to make it darker than it has to be at this moment, because it then didn't look like blood on the last try I did to make it look darker, it kind of looked like strawberry jelly mixed with grape juice...and I have to admit it didn't look as good as I thought it would be, I love it dark, but in a way when you start to look at it, it doesn't really look like dark blood either...

From the screen shots it looks great. How much money did you spend on the effects and such? Good luck, I look forward to a trailer.

To tell you the truth....can't remember! XD I've had those makeups effects with me for so long, eventhough those I believe were $5 each..and I bought like...maybe 8 or 9 of them...and then I bough two severed legs, an arm, a hand, and a foot, a severed rotted corpse head...the prothetic dummy heads were made out of stirofoam wig heads that were $2.50 or something each since I bought two...I've had that skeleton thing around for sometime and that was one of those tuxedo skeletons you hang on your door that I took and used clay and poster red paint for the flesh effects, but since my mother bought that for herself it didn't cost me anything....the computer-ized effects with slow-motions and fast-motions and sound effects, credits are free...because I'm working with my friend's father, who's a nice guy with great advice and showed me how easy it was to do the effects on computer yourself, Todd Pontsler(The Dead Next Door, Reconciled: Through the Christ)...there was a lot of stuff I bought that I couldn't remember keeping count on what I bought, because I've had them since my first try-to-do film: "Hillbilly Creek" which never saw the light of day, but I kept the goodies and latex stuff, and it all worked out to such a wonderful advantage to me.

I've been messing around with special effects and stuff, I haven't came up with anything that looked excellent but it doesn't cost too much. Anyways the movie looks good, and I'll be checking it out when it gets a DVD release.

Pleh...I still haven't gone to his house yet to do more of the editing, he's going to send me three music pieces for the film, so maybe I'll let you guys hear a nice tease from the shot too. All we need to do is install the music, the trailer, the "Making Of" featurette, scene selections and we're done.

Well..I did make the two at the bottom, and I made the bag of intestines next to the head at the top shelf, that one severed head is another prop I bought I think about a year ago...

Nice work, from the pictures it seems like something I would like to watch. Whats is the length of the film? and are you really 17 years of age? Nice.

Well, we never have as many documentary horror movies as we usually wish we could have, and I think you would like this one because it answers every horror fan's question on what psycho killers, and I mean any kind of sadistic psychopath, do in their every day life, and I want to give this film a good watch for halloween.
The length of the film, you can be sure it'll be a full-length feature, eventhough the sad thing was is that we didn't have a timer as we were editing, but it might come out to being almost 80 mintues or so, like I said we don't know, but I'll tell you what it is when we get finished.
Yep! I'm 17 years of age! :haht: I've been trying to do a horror film since I was 13, and I've had my ups and downs at times but this is my very first horror film and it's finally complete. I mean come on, dude, even a 16-year-old did that one film "Dead Lives" and it looked cool, not that I'm saying you think under age kids could do a nice-looking horror film, that's a good question...eventhough a bunch of people ask me that some times :-P

Just remember not to make it boring. Nothing worse than a film that's trying to be feature length by craming in all the crap parts as well. If it doesn't work, throw it out. Don't be afraid to do that. And also, I know this is your first film and all and you must be proud of that but don't get offended if somebody points out flaws in it.
As for that DVD cover, get somebody who knows how to do it, I doupt the DVD label will let that one slide. If you don't have a proper photo, use all graphics but again, let someone who knows his way around photoshop do it. That Paintshop teaser you did is pretty weak and wouldn't entise anyone to want to watch it.

If you can't get used to documentary horror movies, which of course may have some extra stuff just to get the viewer understanding the whole thing of the psycho killer's subconcious surroundings and realisticism, then this is not the film for you. There is plenty of blood and gore to go around in this film, you just need to have some patience and learn from the killer and what horrible things he does, that's one of the best qualities in horror movies when you're waiting for those exact moments and you'd be like "AWW THAT'S IT!".
I showed that dvd cover to atleast 26 people and they really liked it and they said they'd buy it because of how eerie it looks, if you just show off awesome looking stuff on the cover, like the killer's face on the far side of the cover with the house or a shot of a victim in the background, seriously it's gonna make you think second thoughts about the film, because all sorts of industries do that and you know not all the killer's will look like what they do in the movie like on the cover and the movie could seem pointless to watch AND can be a waste of money unless you see a trailer for it first and make sure it describes as what it is. But if you're one of those people who'll do that to the cover then be my guest, just try not to rob the people of their cash just to make a pointless sequal or other feature they're gonna hate.
This film's different, it's more realistic and the cover itself describes the reality of what it's like to go psychotic in a twisted fantasizal meaning. And the movie itself will be quite entertaining if you look into it as it says it is and wait for those awesome deaths. But again, if you can't bare to see a b-flick like this then I'd suggest you go and buy "RECONCILED" and you tell me how that works out.

See all ready you are offended because I didn't like something you did. Welcome to the real world.
Did you know all the 26 people? Did you tell them that it was a poster for a movie that you did and was really excited about? Of course they are going to say it looks good. You are 17 years old, they are not going to crush the dreams of somebody they know. Send the cover to 26 people you don't know and don't tell them it's for a film by a 17 year old and you will get a different response. Me for instance, I work in the graphic design industry and this cover has so many things wrong with it. But it's not all bad, the idea of the headless person is interesting but what I'm saying is that you should get somebody to lend you a decent digital camera and recreate it. Then look at all your favorite horror movie posters and see what makes them work.
And what do you mean when you talk about "extra stuff to understand the whole thing of the psycho killer's subconcious surroundings and realisticism"? Do you mean long shots of the killer mumbling to himself, with the camera doing crazy zooms in and out and twirling around the room?
And how can it be realistic and deep if it's all about "awesome kills"? Do you think people who buy DVDs from that company that you are going to send the film to are going to wait for those kills? To them these films are like porn, skip the boring part, get to the good stuff.
I'm not trying to put you down but I'm telling you, not everyone will like this film, most will dismiss it because you are only 17 years old. And you can't get angry and call them stupid and that they don't understand the movie. Maybe you didn't make a good movie after all and you are too much in love with your own stuff to see that. If the company puts out the movie, great, if it's good, even better. All the luck to you but don't get angry if somebody doesn't like something you do. You can't please everyone.

I wasn't bashing you or anything. And of course I wouldn't get angry with just ONE person or a whole gaggle of people that see it and are too stupid to make sense out of it...because they're not ultimate horror buffs. I'm doing this for the gorehounds, the killer of killers to the horror entertainment industry. I didn't understand the one part where it was like...."maybe you didn't make a good movie after all and you are too much in love with your own stuff to see that"...what the hell was that? You HAVE to be in love with the stuff you're making, whether it's good for you or for general audiences you sell the film to, if you're one of those guys who rely more on profit, yeah pretty bad for you because I learned that if you rely more on profit, your work WILL suffer, even if you were to make a quick buck that's what they were doing with the crappy remakes they have out here now.
Look...you're a guy who's had much more experience than myself for the past years, I'm just a beginner...I don't need another older guy to talk me down on some parts of a film I made or because of the advertisement thing, it's suppose to look that way because it's a different artistic style or so that includes the texture. And please give me a fucking break, man, I don't have money to buy so many high-tech stuff like you guys do but I will eventually.
Jeez...I'm sorry, but when I'm having problems at home at these times it'll really get to me...you probably should have started this arguement AFTER the film's release, then maybe you'd make me feel less unconfident in myself that this film would succeed and reach to a higher length in b-horror filmmaking.
...oh and plus...this film is not going to be one you'll like....these are the types of film's frightie would hate...ever seen Killing Spree, House of Carnage, or Terror Toons? I thought those were wonderful, sure there's lots of clueless stuff in these but they were great. My film's are gonna be like those in different ways, who knows...you like them or you hate them it's that simple.

Again. You are calling people who might not like the movie stupid. Why? Because they are not the ultimate gore hound? And if you are doing this for the gore hounds, why are you including the "extra stuff to understand the whole thing of the psycho killer's subconcious surroundings and realisticism"? Judging from those pictures there is nothing realistic about this film, it's gore for gore's sake, and stuff to fill up the rest.
Those films you mentioned. Why do you like them? Is it because they are great horror films or because they have awesome kills?
If you are not making films to have as many people enjoy them, then you shouldn't be making film for anyone but yourself and maybe your friends. But that isn't a bad thing. Make more films, as many as you can. That way you will hone your craft, maybe stumble upon a visual style.
And the stuff about you having to be in love with your stuff. That's where you are wrong. What is the purpose of the movie? Is it to show gore? Then do you have gore to fill up 90 minutes? Is it to tell a story? If so, what is the best way to get that story across? And is there a point to this story?
Here's an example. A friend of mine recently finished shooting a feature and was so in love with the stuff he got that he planed to make two films out of it. He just couldn't handle the thought of throwing out anything. It wasn't until that he got an outside opinion from an editor that he saw that he wasn't serving the story but his own ego. So now the originally planned 4 hour story has now been cut down to 90 minutes.
Look. I've been in your position. When I was your age I thought everything I did was the shit and everyone who thought otherwise didn't know what the fuck they were talking about. I drew comics and everyone I knew said they were great. When I finally went to see a professional comic artist he said it was "OK" but with constant work I would be good when I reached thirty. That meant that with me constantly working to better myself I would become the fantastic artist that I thought I was at that time. Now I'm over thirty, I've stopped drawing, not because I didn't get better, I just lost interest and I've become a prominent graphic designer where I live but it took me years to get there, with guidance from from people who know what they are talking about. Don't think for a second you know better than they do or they don't understand your genius.
And don't hide behind trouble at home because that should fuel your energy in making kick ass horror films if anything.

We make videos for them to be seen. We post our work on a message board for good and bad feedback. Bad feedback is helpful because it gives you others options on what you are doing and it is these other options that can help you become a better artist. Keep at it and get us a trailer up on YouTube. You both have valid points, lets act like professionals here. I post my vids on this board for the feedback. It's mainly the bad i'm looking for that way I can see from someone else's point of view, this helps me look at my stuff objectively and this helps me grow and learn. I started making videos around 16 and I've already learned a lot. To be honest out of 25 videos or so I only truly love about 6 of them, the rest I see how I could of done things differently. I look forward to a trailer and keep at it man.

Interesting discussion, But I think Toby you need to be open to criticism because your gonna come across alot of Arsehole critics.

I'm completely open to criticism. I serious was only arguing because I didn't have anything better to do...but Gunner's right. We're still editing, getting the trailer together, we're just about done installing the music in the scenes along with the "making of" featurette, and I guess the scene selections.
I also got a job at this awesome place called "Spirit of Halloween", and I'm planning to buy props there for my next horror film...which I can't reveal to you until my first picture gets out there...but this next film will have gore throughout, especially with corpses and cannibalism and deaths I have for it. HACKSAW's my first film, which I'll always love because it was my first horror flick that has a slasher icon in it.
Keep your eyes goudged out for a trailer folks!
To those of you who probably sighed upon me and believed my project was dead guess what? IT'S NOT! Know why? The trailer's out and ready to be viewed! If you wanted some update..here's what's been happening:
3 months had past and my original editor wasn't able to finish editing and finishing the film with me, so I told him I took him out of the film but I said thanks for your help.....yeah what ever....I have a new editor now Me and my friend Jordon Reynolds who are gonna REDO the editing process of the film together and then plan it out for next Halloween, because I couldn't get my other editor to record a copy of my edited but not finished film on a DVD disk. So me and Jordon will be finishing up one the editing after Christmas has passed and we'll be drinking up a path of success!
Mean time, all of you enjoy the official trailer to HACKSAW: Documentary of a Psycho Killer!!!!:
