Is this part of the dead series? Like part 4 or something?

It's suppose to be a new film unrelated to the previous 'Dead' films.
I have serious doubts about it though.
Land was so poor i'm skeptical at best here.

Romero supposedly going back to his low-budget independent roots with this film.

I didn't care for 'Land'.. but I certainly don't think it was bottom of the barrel terrible.

Romero gets another chance from me with 'Diary'. I think I'll just have to try and lower expectations a little.

I asked him about it when i was at the Toronto Fan expo and he said its a very back to basics film. The reason he choose to base it off Film students, and the whole handy cam thing is a look at how we live now. He said that everyone is a news caster now and they all have cameras to capture something big and funny for youtube.

So this is sounding pretty good in my books, i cant wait for it.

They aren't reallly a series.
Its just George making the titles similar and using different outbreaks at different times.
Thats my opinion though, I am probably wrong.

FrighT MasteR

The films are technically sequels, but they don't have any connection with one another aside from the zombies seemingly evolving after each film, which explains why they seemed somewhat smart in Land.

*Big news on distribution!

Distributing the Dead
Romero's latest zombie flick coming to the big screen.
by IGN Staff

September 12, 2007 - The latest big-screen installment in George Romero's endless zombie saga has been picked up for North American theatrical release by The Weinstein Co.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio snatched up the distribution rights to George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead for roughly $2 million.

Romero, who directed the 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead, most recently revisited the zombie subgenre with 2005's Land of the Dead.

Diary premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend.

Romero calls the film "a rejigging of the myth," and intends it to be a reboot of his zombie movie franchise. The story follows a group of students who are making an indie horror film. Unfortunately, life imitates art and the group become trapped in a world being consumed by living corpses. The filmmakers then begin to document the real-life horrors occurring around them.

There's no immediate word on when Weinstein might release the flick on the big screen, but stay tuned.

I really want this to be a good flick. I love all of his zombie flicks, I just hope the camera doesn't shake faster than The Flash having an epileptic fit like Cloverfield did. It might be more realistic for the camera to go nuts when there trying to get away. But thats one bit of realism I could do without.

yeah not playin around here anywhere either. So I'll just wait for DVD. Hopefully it won't take to long to hit the shelves. This is what I personally dislike about limited release stuff. If the movies are worth it they need as much exposure as possible. But when they get a limited release instead of goin straight to DVD its just longer I have to wait before I get to see them.

This movie probably won't get a wider release because of how much it sucked.

There was no one good thing about this movie, bad actors, bad characters, bad cgi, bad dialog, everything. And stupid boring liberal message crap during the whole thing.

A waste of time.

ps. and I know he was political with Night of the Living dead and everything, which was fine, but this movie was just so blatant with it, it was just stupid.

The Effects were good for a movie with the micro budget this film had. The actors were passible accept for the Texan and her boyfriend. The script was good, and Samuel is in the top ten most badass characters in Zombie film history.

Romero has already achieved zombie movie superiority, greatness, whatever you want to call it, probably never top his earlier masterpieces, but Diary delivers on many levels and takes us in another direction, a directions that Romero guides us through with ease.

Fans of quick jump out scares and mindless killings beware...you have to think to appreciate this one.

I just saw it today and being such a fan of all zombie movies, thinking there is no way I could hate this, I left the theater wondering how this was so bad. First off, the beginning was so bad ass. The news cast documenting the first zombies really got me pumped, then the bad voice overs came and then I preceded to watch a disaster. Don't get me wrong, the movie had some great parts. The first scene in the hospital was amazing and so was the Samuel charcter, but other than that is it pretty much sucked. Story was bad, actors were not great, social commentary was shoved down my throat as compared to the more subtle ones of Night, Dawn, Day. The whole movie felt very ameteurish and not up to par with Romero's usual zombie works. I'm probably one of the biggest zombie movie fans there is out there, and I still thought this movie was bad.

No one is bitching, it just sucked. And there was nothing to think about because the whole political view of it was shoved in your face.

Like I said before, it was like a really bad indie zombie movie, that's it.

And the characters were bad and cliche.

Romero has yet to let down with a zombie flick...(sorry folks, Land was the shnizit) But how much gore does this actually have? It may seem shallow, but after Dawn, and Day, I expect BUCKETS of Gore out of a Romero zombie film. Land kind let me down in that respect but the dvd extras were great.

I felt that way the first time I watched it, but it got progressively worse upon each viewing until it got to the point where the movie wasn't even watchable anymore. It's truly one of the worst films I have ever seen, but maybe I'm saying this because it's from someone who could do much, much better.
