guys heard about this. people are now suspecting Silva cheated. it appears he's chewing something and regulations state you cannot eat, chew, or drink anything other than water.

This card has fights that can go eitherway
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/6997/ufc83xtz0.jpg
Hironaka only because Goulet as good as he is he has many weaknesses especially his chin.
Morris might win but we dont know much about Velasquez only that he's 2-0 and both came from tkos which sounds impressive but Morris has experience. we'll see
Stout should have this, Stout has never lost to someone that wasn't qaulity. Clementi has decent skills, decent striking but I doubt it'll be enough.
Maia sounds like he's got good bjj but Herman looks like the more well rounded fighter but Herman lost 3 of his 4 fights via submission.. could be an upset but Herman should be the winner
Day vs Belcher fight should be good and could be close but Belcher should have a slight advantage least on paper
Doerksen is always tough to judge and MacDonald always surprises. I'm going to say MacDonald just because.
Danzig is very experienced and well rounded. Bocek has strong ground game BUT his standup leaves something to be desired and has been Ko'd by superior strikers which Danzig is. Danzig will win even though Danzig has stated this will be one of his toughest opponents
(praying) for McCarthy to win but he most likely wont. I think this fight was made to showcase Bisping (what else is new?)
Quarry should win. He has better standup and Kalib has no heart.
Franklin has the edge on the feet but you can say Lutter is superior on the ground AND Lutter was able to standup with Silva. Lutter could dominate this fight and win via decision. I noticed Franklin's bjj isn't as tight as you would think being best friends with a bjj bb but it's most a defensive for him.. is it solid enough to escape from a bjj bb like lutter? who knows. It will all come down to can lutter take down Franklin? I say Franklin wins because lutter doesn't sound to confident in his pre fight talks.
GSP has trained his ass off and while many say Serra's win was a fluke who knows. Everyone has that one bad matchup and this could be GSP's. I think GSP learned from his mistake and Serra will have trouble this time around. I'm predicting GSP by domination anywhere he wants
IKickAssForTheLord
04-19-2008, 07:03 PM
I always like readin' predictions.
I hope Bisping gets his ass whooped.
I want serra to win, but gonna be tough
Danzig is a tough fighter with like u said alot of exp.
The Stout fight should be good, I always like watchin' him fight... def. against Fisher aka The King
But should be a good PPV, gonna be stoked to watch it.
I'm rootin' for Franklin, hopefully he can get it done.

Fedor Confirms Sylvia Fight
http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=12220
So Driden I guess this fight isnt associated with the UFC or..?
Driden
05-22-2008, 12:32 AM
oh no Dana hates everything to do with other orgs. Sylvia left the UFC for the opportunity to fight Fedor as did Randy, Randy will get his turn on HDnet Fights. Affliction brand is banned by fighters to wear in the UFC. If you watch the tito interview it goes even further. Fighters cannot take sponsers the UFC doesn't agree with hurting the fighters pay.
Dana didn't want to pay Fedor what he's worth and figured without UFC coverage and Pride FC dead Fedor would disappear but what is happening is his UFC fighters are leaving to fight Fedor in other orgs. Now, as it stands their current UFC champ is someone Fedor dominated multiple times.
FreddyKruger316
05-22-2008, 08:52 PM
Dana is an idiot. Under his leadership I think it's only a matter of time before another MMA organization becomes a legit threat and possibly even overtake the UFC as the #1 org in the world. You got so many top fighters leaving the UFC now to go to other organizations all because of Dana's unwillingness to compromise. He's losing a lot of his own top fighters because of his unwilligness to compromise, he didn't sign Fedor because of his unwillingness to compromise, he blew the HBO deal because of his unwillingness to compromise - the list goes on and on. If the UFC wants to remain #1 they got to get rid of Dana ASAP. I mean look at EliteXC, they were able to land a deal with a major broadcast network (CBS) before the UFC could - and as far as I know there is still no major network deal being talked about for the UFC. Dana needs to get with it.
Driden
05-22-2008, 10:45 PM
Fox, HDNet, CBS, ESPN, Showtime, HBO all wanting a piece of MMA now and Dana is so hard to negotiate with. The UFC is pushing the company name and Dana further than the sport itself

Carwin > Wellisch
Dong Hyun Kim > Tan
Yoshida > Koppenhaver
Clementi > Etim
Sokoudjou > Nakamura (could go either way though Naka is excellent at neutralizing)
Salaverry > Palhares
Silva > Mendes
Machida > Ortiz
Gouveia > Reljiic
Silva > Jardine (close, Silva could ko Jardine BUT Jardine is slick and could easily develop a strat to avoid Silva and score pts like he did with Chuck)
BJ vs Sherk - This is easily Sherk's fight IF BJ gasses and ONLY if BJ gasses. BJ will dominate the first round avoiding any dmg on the ground, stuffing takedowns perhaps? and winning the striking game... this fight has the potential of 3 to 5 rounds and the longer the fight the worse BJ chances are. BJ looks in better shape and has stated many times he's better.. we know what Sherk brings and he never finishes fights with his boring style but his style does dominate rounds and judges.
Let me put it this way. I want BJ to win bad. Sherk hasn't finished a fight in about 3 years. would be interesting if he finishes BJ

Ya, it's bullshit. I love Wandy, but he should've never had the chance to fight Jardine. Just because Jardine lost to Houston Alexander between his Griffin and Liddell wins, he got screwed. Now he'll face some mid-carder and he'll have to win at least 3 more fights until he gets a title shot (if he does).

Forrest is gonna get beat down badly, not sure why he gets a fight with Quinton.
Well Forrest's rank went sky high because he beat Shogun which many had at #1 or #2 on their top 205 list. Shogun was Pride's GP champ and many believe if Silva didn't have the belt in Pride he would have held that one as well since no one in Pride could beat Shogun. Forrest jumped at this fight because he knew Shogun wasn't ready. He was suppose to get a tune up fight because he was recovering from injuries, new to UFC, rules, moving to America, starting a new school, leaving Chute Boxe etc. Forrest wanted to use this opp to steal a win and make a bigger name out of himself.
Rampage will kill Forrest imo because Rampage has everything superior from wrestling to boxing to even chin. Rampage has the power to catch and drop chuck.. Forrest couldn't even put away Bonner. The only thing that favors Forrest is maybe cardio, but Rampage held his own against top judo, wrestling and bjj guys and not only didn't get subbed but didn't get tired.

My money is on Rampage, but it would be a mistake to totally count Forrest out in this fight. He is a decent striker and he showed he has a good ground game in his fight against Shogun. Forrest is a tough dude. There's no quit in him, he's the kind of guy that can take a good beating and still keep coming at you. I think Rampage will get the win here, but I would not be surprised at all if Forrest takes it.

Yes. I think Rampage is more likely to get the win - but I do believe that Forrest can win unlike a lot of other people who are totally counting him out and saying it's going to be a very one-sided fight and an easy win for Rampage. Whoever ends up winning, I think it's going to be a good fight and not an easy win for either fighter.

I heard the EliteXC prelims are being streamed on ProElite.com @ 7pm ET.
It's not only free but this is the first time MMA is officially mainstream and being broadcasted on a national major network on a primetime slot! Something the UFC couldn't do (because of Dana)
Gary Shaw: "Dana White is a jack-off"
I think Gary Shaw hit the nail on the head:
"Dana White is a jerkoff," Shaw said. "That's what Dana White is -- a [expletive] idiot -- and you can quote me on that. If he cared about mixed martial arts and the sport instead of caring about his big ass swimming pool and his own personal gains, he'd understand that statements like that make someone a jerk. First of all, I love B.J. Penn, and he is a friend of mine. Kimbo Slice, with one shot, would knock B.J. Penn out. But they are never going to fight. It is an idiotic statement from a complete idiot."
...
It's those kinds of idiotic statements, Shaw said, that prompted CBS officials to work with EliteXC rather than the UFC.
"If he wasn't an idiot, May 31 would have been the UFC instead of EliteXC," Shaw said. "I rest my case."
While EliteXC prepares for the first-ever live MMA event on network TV, and while Strikeforce's weekly highlights show has proven to be a surprise ratings hit on NBC, the UFC continues to look for its own network-TV partner. White has continually stated that he won't sign a "stupid deal" and is simply waiting for the right offer. For the past few months, he's maintained that the UFC has all but wrapped up a network deal of its own. FOX is the rumored suitor, though no formal announcement has been made.
However, he apparently didn't have too many options. CBS (like onetime possibility HBO) reportedly soured on the UFC due to the fight promotion's demands of creative control. Additionally, as MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) reported in March, talks between the UFC and the NBC never really got off the ground because network executives "weren't too keen" on working with White, according to a source within NBC.
Shaw-White Feud Could Be MMA’s Arum and King
And then there's this:
“I like Brock, but it just shows that Dana doesn’t know what he’s doing. Every time he signs someone, they get beat right away. I guess if you want to get beat right away, you should go to the UFC. It’s like I said all along, Dana didn’t invent mixed martial arts, he doesn’t own the best fighters in the world and he doesn’t have the best fights in the world. He should come down and look at our show, although I’m sure he watches them free on Showtime. I feel badly because Brock could’ve been a star and he ruined him right off of the bat. It was a bad match-up.”
Gary Shaw: ‘Dana [White] ruined [Brock Lesnar] right off the bat’ at UFC blog for UFC news, results, videos, rumors, fights, pics and tickets — MMAmania.com
Gary Shaw seems to be an incredibly smart business man. Dana? Not so much. I think Zuffa needs to find someone else to run the UFC before White totally ruins it.

I doubt it. But it would be sweet if that rumor turns out to be true. I would love to see Floyd Mayweather get his ass beat by all the top lightweights in the UFC. As for Dana's big announcment, I think it's going to be that the UFC finally signed a major network deal with I'm guessing either FOX or NBC. EliteXC got fairly decent ratings on their CBS debut so I'm guessing that's going to make the other major networks want to grab the UFC.

Whether he wins or loses I think Hughes is going to retire after the Serra fight. I think he should anyway. His time has past, I don't think he has what it takes to compete against any of the current top fighters and up and comers in the welterweight division. The top three welterweight fighters in the UFC which I would say are GSP, Fitch, and Alves all have superior striking and great takedown defense. If Hughes decides to stay in the UFC for a while longer I seriously doubt he will ever be champion again.

Sorry QJ you were a loser in japan and not much better here. nYou beat a has been in chuck and when you get right down to it you did not beat Dan Henderson that fight was a draw. You got credit for a knock down in the last minute of rd 5 that gave you the win . Clearly Dan got his feet tied up trying to slip the punch that you never landed. I watched the fight about 10 x's neither of you did enough to win. Just laying on top of someone for most of the fight does not make you the winner. I'm not a forest fan, but you are doing the same thing Shogun did. You are not taking the fight seriously and will lose. Also Shogun will still beat your ass in a rematch.

Some MMA News:
-- Kim Couture, wife of Randy Couture, didn't have as impressive of a showing on 6/20 in Las Vegas as part of the free boxing/MMA show at the Thomas & Mack Center. Couture had her jaw broken on the first punch, an uppercut, by opponent Kim Rose. Her jaw was basically split, and the left side of her mouth ended up a half-inch lower than the right side. The fight was said to be absolutely brutal to watch with the consensus that Couture should have quit. Instead she ended up going all three rounds, taking more shots to the face, ending up with a bloody nose on top of the rest of the carnage. She had her jaw wired over the weekend.
(Interesting, I didnt know she was in MMA)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The teenage son of Roddy Piper, Colt Toombs, had a big debut on Matt Lindland’s Sportsfight show on 6/20. Toombs, trained out of Lindland’s Team Quest, destroyed Steve Quick in 1:38 in an amateur fight on the show. The show aired on HD-Net but Colt's fight was a prelim. They did show highlights and he was interviewed. It was pushed hard that he was Piper’s son.
(Great to hear)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meltzer reports that Showtime loaned EliteXC an additional $3 million on 6/17. Pro Elite, Inc., under terms of the loan, has to pay $3.3 million back to Showtime on June 17, 2009. Part of the terms is that the company cannot let its cash balance fall below $550,000. They can pay the note back before next year on terms accrued on a 10% annual interest rate. The company had previously gotten a $1,822,086 loan in December from Showtime, which, with interest, is due at the end of March.
Elite XC made the official announcement of the first combined dual network television MMA show on 7/26, with one hour on Showtime followed by two hours on CBS.
The show, emanating from the Stockton (CA) Arena, will feature two title matches on CBS and most likely a third on Showtime. The plan is for four live fights on CBS (9-11 p.m.) with two title matches and three fights on Showtime (8-9 p.m.), with a potential title match on Showtime, getting three fights in during a one-hour telecast could be dicey.
(Nice to see that they have another special on CBS)

Update On Mirko Cro Cop
Mirko Cro Cop recently posted the following on his blog letting everybody know how his training has been going, as well as possibly fighting Alistair Overeem in the near future:
"Hi everyone, I'm excited to let you know that my recovery has been going really well and I've recently restarted my MMA training routines. So far I had no troubles with my leg and I'm positive that all problems with it are behind me. It's good to be back to my full training regiment and I have no doubts that I'll be 100% ready to fight very soon.
I was asked by the members of media if I'm willing to fight Overeem since we challenged me twice already. I watched DREAM 5 and I was happy to see a strong heavyweight match-up on the card, I have no doubts that DREAM will put more match-ups like that in the future. It was a very good performance by Alistair I must say. I'm happy to accept his challenge and I'm looking forward to this fight as I believe that we can deliver an entertaining fight. Now it's up to DREAM to make this fight happen, I'm ready to face my challenger on the next show already.
I see many people speaking about me as a washed-up fighter but this is just another boost to my motivation. I'm working hard to get back on track and meeting and defeating strong competitors in the ring is all that I think of nowdays."

Woman whom officials say ‘Rampage’ Jackson hit in car collision has miscarried, fiance says. No actions filed yet.

A Huntington Beach woman who was more than 16 weeks pregnant and who police said was injured in a hit-and-run crash with mixed martial artist Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on the 55 Freeway two weeks ago has had a miscarriage, her fiance said Friday.
Holli Griggs, 38, was driving her 2007 Cadillac Escalade in the left lane on the southbound 55 Freeway just south of Bay Street on July 15 when Jackson’s gray-and-green pick-up truck sideswiped her as he drove along the median lane at about 45 mph, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Prosecutors have yet to file charges against Jackson, a former light heavyweight champion for the Ultimate Fighting Championship who remains free on $25,000 bail. Prosecutors would not comment on any potential charges due to Griggs’ miscarriage.
“Our office will make sure we take as much time as necessary to make a proper filing decision and including all evidence and medical information to make sure any charges that are filed are fair and accurate,” Dist. Atty. spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.
Efforts to reach Jackson and his representatives have been unsuccessful since he was arrested.
Griggs was unavailable for comment Friday. Her fiance, Bill Krebs, said doctors were immediately concerned when they noticed a significant loss of fluid in Griggs’ womb after the accident. Days before the crash, the couple had visited the doctor for an ultrasound, and Griggs was told she “had enough fluid for three babies,” Krebs said. She was pregnant with a boy.
Griggs was sent to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian after the accident, CHP officials said. Krebs said he and Griggs were then sent to pregnancy specialists at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim, where doctors noticed the problem.
The couple have retained an attorney but have yet to take legal action against Jackson.
“No amount of money will bring back my son,” Krebs said outside his home Thursday.
Jackson was arrested July 15 after Costa Mesa police say they chased him from 18th Street and Newport Boulevard, where he was weaving through traffic with a flat tire while talking on the phone all the way to 18th Street on Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach.
Jackson ran several red lights, drove on concrete islands narrowly missing pedestrians, headed into oncoming traffic and hit another car, police said. Officers did not test Jackson for drugs or alcohol because he did not appear to be under the influence, Sgt. Bryan Glass said. He was released that night on bail.
The next day, Jackson was taken from his Irvine home and hospitalized for observation after police deemed he was a danger to himself and others. Jackson was upset by Forrest Griffin in a light heavyweight title bout in Las Vegas July 5.

Reporter: "In your opinion, is there a fighter that could beat Fedor in the sport today?"
Dana: "You're trying to start some shit. I don't believe in the Fedor hype. I gotta see him fight somebody first. Obviously he destroyed Tim Sylvia..."
Reporter: "Thirty-seven seconds!"
Dana: "...and I couldn't have been fuckin' happier! (Everyone laughs) Tim Sylvia has been boring me for years. Finally, it was good to see him get wrecked. The only good thing he did was break Fedor's hand with his face. Honestly, Fedor has to prove himself to me before I'll believe in Fedor."

I'm sure Dana really believes that Fedor is the #1 heavyweight fighter in the world (given his record, how can anyone not?). He just can't come out and say it because he's the head of the UFC. It's all buisness. I guarantee that if Fedor ever came to the UFC he would be given all kinds of hype, but Dana knows that will probably never happen so he's going to say anything he can to discredit him.
Lucio Argento
08-10-2008, 09:43 PM
Of course. The only real good heavyweights that Fedor hasn't fought yet are Couture, Barnett, and Arlovski. He'll be facing the winner of Barnett-Arlovski, so you can't say he hasn't faced competition. He's beaten the current UFC champ twice already, he's beaten Tim Sylvia, Cro Cop, Mark Hunt, Arona, Herring, Babalu, Lindland, Schilt, Goodridge, Coleman twice, Randleman, Fujita, etc. He's easily the top heavyweight out there.
Andre Arlovski will win vs JB
Lucio Argento

I hope JB wins. He'd be a harder test for Fedor than AA. I also think Barnett will either beat AA by decision or possibly by submission.

I highly doubt that. Liddell vs Rashad was a pre-title match up winner to take Forrest. Let's not forget Machida in the title mix, this guy cannot be beat
Franklin just got in the division and there is a lot of top competition for him seeing how he wasn't as dominating as I expected against Hamill.

Fans created a song for Tanner
http://www.ubetoo.com/TopSongs.taf?_SongId=4767
piece of Joe Rogan's Blog
Evan Tanner left the world a little less interesting.
The world has lost one of it's most interesting characters.
The news spread all over the Internet yesterday that former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner is dead.
Evan had apparently gone out deep into the California desert looking for adventure and perished when he ran out of gas and water.
For any normal person the thought of traveling alone into the middle of the savage environment of Death Valley seems insane, but when I heard that's what Evan Tanner was planning it made perfect sense.
Evan was a lot more than a "normal" person. He was a fascinating individual – a wandering spirit in search of adventure in the truest sense of the term.
I was a regular reader of Evan's blog, and although I had always appreciated him as a fighter and a friendly person to talk to, it was in reading his writings that I came to better understand his spirit.
He would write with painful honesty and admirable vision about every aspect of his journey through this life, and when I would read his words I would always get food for thought.
Sometimes when I write, it's like I'm reaching out to an old friend without a name or a face. I think of it as some new form of non-physical intimacy.
I'm trying to find my consciousness and merge it with yours, and as weird as it sounds I feel that connection with every myspace message and email I get.
We're both alone and interfaced with a monitor in silence, and as I craft my sentences and express my ideas my intention is always for you to get an unfiltered view into my thoughts. I want you to take them with you.
I'm opening my head to merge my thoughts with you, and the only way that really works is if I'm 100% honest.
Reading Evan Tanner's blog has on many occasions inspired me into that conclusion.
His blog was a porthole into the window of his soul, and reading his brave, uncensored thoughts gave me an invigorated sense of purpose to do the same.
Evan's take on life was like that of a character in an adventure novel, and his thirst for experience was actually what lead him into fighting in the first place.
I can remember the first time I watched him fight, when I read that he learned his techniques from a video tape and was self trained. I thought that it takes a really unusual person to enter into the toughest sport in the world that way. He took that unusual energy and channeled it to become the UFC middleweight champion of the world.
He was that, and more.
Evan Tanner has left the rest of us trapped in this life and has moved on to the next stage of existence where he will undoubtedly find adventure beyond his wildest imagination.
In doing so he has left the world a little less interesting.

I never thought I would like women's MMA but the few women's fights I've seen were very good, surprisingly they actually seem to be more aggressive then a lot of the guys and aren't afraid to go out there and just bang. The Carano fight was probably the best one on that card. Only complaint about the women's fights is the three minute rounds, that's way too short. As for Kimbo, thank god he has finally been exposed - he is probably the most over-hyped fighter in MMA history.

True. MacDonald is just a bad matchup for him and I think he's already reached his peak as a very solid gatekeeper. If he beats Kang, it hurts Kang's stock immensely and it just gives MacDonald an opportunity to lose to a top 5 guy yet again. I don't think the UFC is that dumb.

I'll jump in and give my two cents on that. I like Randy as much as the next guy, but I don't see him overcoming the power and explosiveness of Lesnar. Lesnar will have a 50+ lbs weight advantage and that's all in muscle weight. I will say that if Randy can somehow keep the fight standing he has a chance of out boxing and possibly knocking out Lesnar (Lesnar's striking skills and chin are still in question), but if Lesnar takes Randy down which is what will likely happen, it's unlikely that Randy will be able to get back up and Lesnar will win it by either UD or possibly TKO (ground and pound). Randy is not really known for being a submission guy so Lesnar won't have to worry much about that like he did with Mir.

Randy officially weighed in at only 220 lbs which will give Brock an even bigger weight/strength advantage then I thought. Brock will be around 280 lbs when he rehydrates which will give him at least a 60 lbs weight advantage come fight time. That is HUGE.

I don't know how you can call Frank Mir a nobody. He is a former champion and besides Nogueira he is one of the best submission guys in the UFC's HW division. There is no shame in being tapped out by Mir especially when it's your very first fight in the UFC.

And what is your basis on that? He's only had two fights in the UFC. Fact is no one can say yet if he's an over-hyped nobody or if he'll be the next Fedor. Anyone who looks at him from an objective prospective should be able to clearly see that he has potential. He dominated a former UFC champion in Frank Mir until a combination of his inexperience in defending submissions and Frank Mir's experience in locking submissions got him caught and he had a dominating win over Heath Herring. You consider Frank Mir and Heath Herring nobodys but that is simply not a fact and anyone who knows anything about MMA would tell you the same.
IKickAssForTheLord
11-15-2008, 12:54 AM
Frank Mir is a black belt HW... Dude can do submission like nobody's business! And like u said he's a former Champ, only reason probably barely anybody has heard of him is cuz of his accident that kept him out of the game for a long time.
And Brock did dominate Heath, he broke his fuckin' face with his first punch. And I do mean he broke his face!

I'm not a fan of Brock at all, but you couldn't be more incorrect here.
Lesnar was holding his own against Mir before his inexperience (and stupidity) cost him the match and he got caught. Mir is one of the top submission specialists in the heavyweight division and he gets a title shot against Nogueira soon. He's hardly a "nobody."
Herring isn't crappy either. He almost finished Nogueira and he had just beat Cheick Kongo in a pretty solid fight. Lesnar was just too overpowering for him. He landed that opening punch, stayed on top of him, and landed some nice knees. Herring looked ridiculously beat up after that fight.
I don't know who's going to win. I think that the longer the fight goes, the better chance Couture has of winning. In a long fight, I think Lesnar can make a mistake that Couture will capitalize on. Also, we've never seen Lesnar get hit and we've never seen him be on the bottom on the ground. It will be interesting to see how he handles those situations (if they happen). I'm going to go with my heart instead of my head and say Couture wins with a 4th or 5th round TKO (GnP) or a decision.
In the 2nd main event, I have Florian beating Stevenson by decision. Florian's reach, stand up, and takedown defense should be enough to get a decision over Joe Daddy.
I also think Maia will beat Quarry by submission. The guy is a wizard on the ground.

I agree. I see Florian winning by decision or possibly even by KO/TKO. I think he'll be able to avoid getting taken down and will pick Stevenson apart with his striking. And even if Stevenson does manage to get Florian down, Florian is a black-belt in BJJ so he can also hold his own on the ground.
I also think Maia will beat Quarry by submission. The guy is a wizard on the ground.
This one is hard to predict because it all depends on where the fight ends up. Yeah Maia has a great ground game, but his striking is awful. Quarry on the other hand has great striking and if he can avoid getting taken down he will have a huge advantage and most likely win by KO or TKO if the fight stays on the feet. But yeah, if Maia is able to get the fight to the ground he is likely to win by submission.
