I do not have a link as I took this from a post someone made on another board I post at.
-------------------------

Variety reports that Warner Bros. has acquired North American distribution rights to Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, triggering an early 2008 production start for a film that seeks to reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-movie span.

WB plans to distribute "Terminator Salvation" in summer 2009.

The "Terminator" film franchise got a new lease on life in spring, when privately funded Halcyon and its co-CEOs Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson teamed with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines executive producer Moritz Borman to acquire film, merchandising and licensing rights from ex-Carolco partners Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar. Kubicek, Anderson and Borman are producing the new film, with Peter D. Graves as executive producer.

WB had first right of negotiation for domestic theatrical and TV distribution rights because the studio played the same role on 2003's Jonathan Mostow-directed "Terminator 3."

The producers said that the new film will carry the size and scale of "Terminator 3," and will have an event-sized budget.

Sony Pictures Entertainment, which distributed "Terminator 3" in most overseas territories, is expected to get first crack at a reprise. Several other territories are spoken for, including Japan, where Toho-Towa is expected to distribute once again.

A screenplay has been completed by "Terminator 3" writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and the financiers and studio are close to locking a director. While industry buzz has Charlie's Angels director McG as the odds-on favorite for the assignment, the producers said no final decision had yet been made.

"This is set in the future, in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind," Anderson told the trade.

Borman said: "The third film was really the conclusion of what happened in the 'now.' You will find the most-loved characters, but the intention here is to present a fresh new world and have this be the first of a trilogy."

The producers said it wasn't yet clear whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back for his fourth appearance in the franchise that launched his movie career. "T3" was the last film in which he starred before becoming governor of California.

"We've left it open for him to maybe do a cameo," Borman said. "He has an important job, as we know, and the final decision will be based on his desire and availability, along with what the director wants

Damn three new films. I can see Arnie doin' a cameo, but I don't see him starring again if they're bring forth a new storyline.

I would really like to see one LAST movie in the future.Would love to see Michael Biehn get trained and sent back in time to finish the series off,if they could make him look young enough.

Since its in the future it probably wouldn't need Arnold or anyone else to be a Terminator. It would be nice to see a Cameo of sorts though.

They should make one more movie and end the series. Why ruin a good thing. But as we all know its all about the $$$.

I second that!

But in all honesty it's too late. T3 raped the franchise of its coolness. It was just too over-the-top for me. Should've ended better!

I like how the 3rd movie ended.
The 3rd may not have been the best addition to the series, but the way they ended it,is the way it should have been ,with NO hope at all.
After everything that has happened, there really was no way to stop this future from happening, only for the characters to prepare a little better for it.

I am sure glad Hollywood took this route rather than another feel-good,its going to be ok,it's over now ending. We dont need anymore of those-time to take it to the future.

T4 Star and Director Buzz
Could the next Terminator run on Diesel?
by Stax

October 4, 2007 - The Internet is abuzz with rumors that Terminator 4 is finally moving ahead with new talent both in front of and behind the camera.

CHUD.com broke the news that none other than Charlie's Angels director McG is said to be mulling T4. "This doesn't mean McG IS directing Terminator 4, but that he's in talks about it," the site reports. "The film is being set up as a pre-striker; the script just got turned in last week and the good people at The Halcyon Company would like to get this sucker into pre-production stat."

Now Ain't It Cool News claims that Riddick himself, Vin Diesel, is "taking meetings with the Terminator people and the assumption is it's about him being a Terminator." No word yet how this might affect Diesel's involvement with The Fast and the Furious 4.

James Cameron was a hell of a lot more important to the franchise than Arnold was. Just look at t3.

T3 was disappointing. I knew it would be after the awesomeness of T2. I was hoping Arny would be the same, but since "he was a different robot" he forgot everything, so it was a waste of time. The older version of John COnner from T2 would be awesome as fuck, but im sure the guy that played him for the 30 second clip is much older now.

Yeah,we need more T-101's that show emotion and can stand in as father figures.
If anything arny should have been the same as T1,there really would have been no reason for Skynet to develop a Terminator with emotions, and to wear sunglasses just to look cool.

T3 was entertaining but it doesnt touch the other two films.

Not even close.

Should leave the series alone. Arnie is way past his prime and Diesal is just another flash in the pan would be action star in an action genre thats been dead for a long time.

The Rock should take over for Arnold, after all, arnold clearly tried to pass the torch to him with his Cameo in The Rundown.

Rock is a better actor then Diesel, and a bigger box office draw, although he will probably get double the salary.

It explained how he/why was learning in T2 the book, and it had a part in the alternate version on the Deluxe DVD that showed Sara and John switching his main chip over so that he could learn.

The problem with Arnold not being in anymore (if hes not) Terminator movies is that the Terminator from T2 is the one that killed John in the futuer but before he was sent back into time to save him in the past.

I wonder why the T-1000 project failed...

They really don't need Arnie doin the film. All they need is a few sound bites and they can CGI Arnie into the film.

the rock would be a better choice then vin but somebody mentioned it what happened to the t-1000? Robert Patrick should have a cameo somewhere in the 4th the tx was the worst thing ever.

If vin is gonna do something let it be another riddick movie Pitch Black kicked all kinds of ass and Chronicles wasn't terribly horrible I could use a third. The character is too cool to pass up.

When Ain't It Cool broke the story that Christian Bale was in Terminator 4, playing John Connor, one of my sources became confused. That couldn't be true, I was told - John Connor is barely in the movie. Turns out that it's true, and that yes, John Connor is barely in the movie. Over the last week I have been gathering some details about Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, and while I am trying to steer clear of serious spoiler material, people who don't want to know anything about this movie should step away from the computer right now.

John Connor is not the main character of Terminator 4; that character is someone named Marcus. Marcus was put 'out of commission' before the nuclear holocaust on Judgment Day and he wakes up about 15 years before the future we see in the original Terminator films, which puts the movie at about 2015 or so. Marcus is a bad ass - think along the lines of Riddick - and what he finds is a blasted world filled with horror. Radiation poisoning, starvation, rampant jaywalking - all the things you expect post-apocalypse. There's also John Connor, who is trying to build a utopian society while running the human resistance.

Connor's role is apparently bigger in the second film; whoever they hire for Marcus (my understanding is that the part is not yet cast) will be around for all three films. Terminator 4 is going to be the most male-centric of all the Terminator films, but there is a butt busting female character by the name of Blair, a pilot for the human resistance.

They're going to need some buttkickers, because the scope of the action in Terminator 4 is HUGE. Lots of machine action in this film, including some battles with the T-600s. Yup, the rubber skin Terminators. And there's another familiar character that shows up - Reese shows up in a scene with John Connor. I don't know what his involvement in the next two films will be, though.

Finally, here's a story point that's probably a legitimate spoiler (although it's sort of the main crux around which the story revolves, so it will probably get blown in the advertising), so I'll invisotext this stuff: A big aspect of the story is the degrees of difference between a human and a Terminator. By which I mean cyborgs. By which I mean human brains in robot bodies.

I've gathered this info from a number of different sources, and while they all have different takes on the material (all mostly positive, with one of my sources saying that the story is great and that the action promises to be incredible), they all bring up one point of comparison: The Matrix films. Make of that what you will. For me, the information I've gotten - including really spoilery stuff I won't inflict on you - has gotten me jazzed. This film feels like it could be epic and erase the taste of the workmanlike T3 from my mouth. Let's hope McG can pull this off.
