The entertainment industry's new proposal to combat file sharing. It will never pass, but just knowing they have the balls to propose something like this makes me giggle inside.

According to the bill, if universities did not agree to test "technology-based deterrents to prevent such illegal activity," all of their students--even ones who don't own a computer--would lose federal financial aid.

Well they have to figure out some way of keeping people aged 18-35 stupid enough to feed on the scraps of entertainment the industry throws them. Makes perfect financial sense to me.

hmm...I don't know about this. It has to be further investigated. I don't know if the schools themselves should have to pay for the students doing illegal file sharing. That's kinda whack. But I think if they threaten with the financial aid thing, the schools will be forced to comply.

Okay, let me get this straight. The government is telling colleges that they need to give money to big business or else be punished?

Wait, "spend some of the money we give you on the big business or else we won't give you any money." That's what it amounts to.

I actually like Ruckus (my brother uses it) and Napster (if I'm really hard-up for a song). This is just wrong on every level, though. Every single level.

It will never go....I can't see the schools eating the cost, and I damn sure know the students aren't going to pay a monthly charge for something they don't need, and may or may not even use. I personally use iTunes and pay for all my music needs....I wish somebody would try to make me pay for a service that I wouldn't even be using.
