About a month ago I posted that Nic Cage was attached to the lead, Thank God for the change...

Rourke is New Wrestler
Star replaces Cage in Aronofsky drama.
by Orlando Parfitt, IGN UK
UK, November 12, 2007 - Sin City star Micky Rourke is set to replace Nicholas Cage in Darren Aronofsky's upcoming project The Wrestler.

According to Variety, Rourke will take Cage's role of Randy "The Ram" Robinson, an over-the-hill wrestler who returns to the ring one last time to face his nemesis, "The Ayatollah."

It's not clear why Cage has left the production, but Rourke is certainly qualified for the role -- he had plenty of practice grappling when he was a professional boxer in the 1980s.

Aronofsky, whose last film The Fountain polarised critics, will begin shooting The Wrestler in January.

Sounds interesting, if they'll be taking a serious stance on it that is, otherwise it'll be just like Ready to Rumble - not that there's anything wrong with that lol, Ready to Rumble was pretty funny and had a good wrestling match at the end, but this would definitely be good from a serious standpoint. Mickey Rourke's a scary motherfucker.

Its a Darren Aronosky film, so Im pretty sure it safe to say it WIL NOT be like "Ready to Rumble".

Here's my review: It's a piece of shit. I'm sick to death of the pseudo-doc style. I walked in not having been a fan of pro wrestling, hoping for a good flick nonetheless. I think that regardless of subject material, a good director ought to be able to "bring you in.'' Unfortunately, the film never engaged me.

i loved this movie. dont know what it was about it but it was amazing. Seeing Rourke up there moved me and the ending was perfect. Already in my top 5 of all time. It was at my theatre for about 2 weeks and saw it like 20 times.
