View Full Version : IPOD CLASSIC question
Im about to buy the new ipod 180 gig. I currently have a simple ipod nano 4 gig but want to be able to watch movies, so what the hell get the best right? My question is can you download dvd's to your ipod the same way you download cd's? If you own a ipod you know the drill, put the cd in your computer and iTunes automatically reads it and from there you can import the cd. So does it work the same way with dvd's, does iTunes automatically read the dvd and all you have to do is import it? Any info would help. Thanks in advance!

If only it were that simple. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. I'm a mac user and I use "Handbrake" to convert the movie into an mp4. From there you can usually drop it into itunes. Occassionally I get one that won't go into itunes. When that happens I run the mp4 through a program called "podner". No trouble. Quicktime also has an ipod conversion, but it's shit. (Or at least it was)

I looked up "podner" and it sounds great but is it for MAC only? Do you know any good programs for windows??

DVDFAB is great for Windows. It will convert to Ipod, I use it for DVD burning and works well.

Just downloaded dvdfad and it works great as a burner! I hope it works just as well for my new ipod. Another question, can can download "burned" dvd's to a ipod with dvdfad, or does the dvd have to be an original? Thanks for the info!!

yeah, all DVDs, burned and store bought, are playable in a home theatre are vob files which are huge video files. DVDFAB should be able to convert them to desired sizes and formats no issues. im no DVD burning guru, I rarely burn DVDs. Download em, but rarely burn since I have a PC hooked to my TV. Im glad my info helped you out.
Got my 160 gig today, loading it up with music and dvd's as we speak. Thanks for all your help! :coolbeer:

I'm a huge fan of MediaCoder for PC conversions. The great thing is that you shouldn't need to pirate it either.
Well another question...As I mentioned earlier, I downloaded DVDFab to help convert movies to my ipod. Here's my question, I downloaded The Godfather and everything worked fine after I figured it out. But when I played the movie on my ipod it shows the english subtitles throughout the entire movie. I now it should show subtitles when they are speaking Italian (which is does). Is there a option on DVDFab to take off subtitles? I looked but cant find a option to take off english subs. when not needed. THANKS!

Now if you play the original movie you downloaded, does it show the subtitles? Some rippers that upload the movies "hardcode" the subtitles right into the movie, in that case NO. Im not sure how to do it otherwise. I know subtitle files end in... svf i think, you might be able to delete that file to remove subs...
I just downloaded Entourage season 1 disk "1" and everything is perfect, downloaded Entourage season 1 disk 2"" and it has the subtitles on it. WTF?
