What kind of phone?

Motorola apparently sells the software that lets you copy tones to your phone.

Nokia gives theirs away for free. You need a cable for both of them.

Older style Motorolas with the shitty MIDI ringtones will often let you program your own in.

Seriously, I asked my family and friends what song they wanted my phone to play when they call. So now if Let's Build A Snowman from Cannibal! The Musical starts playing, that can only be my brother.

There's a site called www.funformobile.com. You can find ringtones, vids, and pics. It's awesome. You just need picture mail!

Yup... it all depends on what phone you have....

Now, if you want to buy the goddamned things, but you want to make sure you'll like what you're buying before you buy it, set up your Myt-mobile account on T-mobile.com ... you can listen to them before buying them, unlike purchasing them off of t-zones.

One major thing though... Make sure if it says "FREE RINGTONE"... READ THE FINE PRINT FIRST! Otherwise, I'll probably getting a call from you asking me what this $9.99 charge that keeps popping up on your bill is... many people could spare themselves a lot of time and money buy just reading the terms and conditions when something tells them "FREE RINGTONE".

Motorola Phone tools is $50 and is a POS clunky software. You can find torrents to download it, but its a waste of time. I have the actual driver for Motorola if you only want to charge your phone through the USB port. just let me know. (6mb or so)

I have a Nokia with T-Mobile. I love this thing. There are only a couple of small quirks that really bug me.

I know better than to buy Motorola.

You can download the whole s/t from the official website, too.

Three6, who made your phone? And are you on one of their prepaid phones or is this a plan? (I actually carry one of each and use my old prepaid as a pager/texter rather than end up surprised on my next phone bill.)

Three6, what model phone? If you have a plan then here's what you probably need to do.

Forget T-Zones exists.
Go to Nokia's site and look through the downloads. There is a program called Nokia PC Suite. It's free.
Type the word Nokia and your phone model into either Ebay or amazon. For instance, I would type Nokia 6133. Both sites will link to small retailers who sell cheap knockoff data transfer cables for somewhere between a penny to a dollar. (You'll get screwed on shipping, but it still works out to less than $5). One end goes in the phone, the other end in your PC's USB jack.
Install the program per the instructions. It's kind of involved, and you will want to have your phone and new cable ready.
Transfer your file in a format that your phone will use as a ringtone.
One aside, my Nokia will play MP3 files but will generally only use WMA files as ring tones. No one really knows why, but you can have Windows Movie Maker convert an mp3 to a wma.

So anyway, you may also want to check out Amazon reviews to see what other people are doing to get their tones onto the phone.

Well, $5 and a week to get it shipped will amount to all the ringtones you could ever want.

Otherwise you may just be able to zap the tunes off your pc by Bluetooth.
