Been following this indie film for a while, but haven't actually added it to the database until now:

Slow-ass.

Takes me extra long for indie films, because I have to determine whether they look like they'll get proper distribution or not, otherwise, there's no point in adding'em.

Excuses. Excuses. :D

Any idea if the release date is still going to be in February?

I heard sometime in Spring, but nothing official, which is why I left it at 2008.

This movie looks like a real life snuff film. Which I may enjoy it. I've been waiting for a movie like this.

Doesn't look that good. I might rent it when it hits dvd. Then again, it'll be interesting to see just exactly who goes to this. For once, I don't see any lame teenagers or anyone but horror fans stting in the theater watching this.

Not sure about this one. It's seems like a gimmick movie, and I don't really want to pay money to see something on the big screen that's suppose to look like shit.

I'll never understand why people actually believe stuff like this and the Blair Witch Project are real. :die:

You honestly think a distributor is going to be allowed to buy tapes showing people being tortured and murdered and release them commercially into theaters?

There's a reason why flicks like Faces of Death go direct to video; even then, though, all of the deaths shown in flicks like that aren't of American serial killers going after people, they're of publicly-shot deaths or videos from other countries.

Any real video of someone picking people off in their basement (or wherever) would be sitting in a crime lab somewhere and not in the hands of MGM executives.

I had to write this after seeing people here and on the IMDB board question whether or not it's real.

So... its an R rated AU? This will be the next Saw, after an UNRATED/Directors cut on DVD it will begin overshadowing Toetag's AU series. And then come the claims that TT ripped off these videos etc.... Then comes the 2 sequels two finish off the trilogy. :dsp:

Hate to break it to you but its not like August Underground was the first movie to do the whole pseudo snuff style anyways.

Besides, I doubt the pseudo snuff craze will really catch on. There are already a bunch of them out there or are being made already, this might spawn a couple more but it probably won't become the next Hollywood trend.

It looks interesting to say the least. A couple of months ago, Fangoria gave the film (in UHM standards) a borderline-positive review for the film and BD gave it a positive review.

Hard to trust a BD review since they give everything positive reviews because they are looking to get their named slapped on the DVD cover or used for TV promos.

The WORST instance I encountered of this was arguing with someone about whether or not the 8mm footage at the end of the TCM remake was real or not.

I finally saw a trailer in its entirety that didn't skip or stutter or anything. Holy shit, that was disturbing. I don't know if I'll see this, but my hat will certainly go off to anyone who does.
Maybe it's just really good trailer editing (which there isn't very much of, I think the worst trailer editing I've ever seen was for Bad Taste), but this looks like it'll be the most disturbing movie to come out in a while.

I am concerned that this movie will be "just" disturbing and not fun to watch. With the absence of a protagonist, it's really just going to be a sequence of torture vignettes and I don't really see how I can sit through it and be entertained.

I see what you're saying, and I totally agree with you to an extent, that was my initial problem with The Hills Have Eyes remake (though I eventually learned to like it). But you know how when the Exorcist came out people would say, "I dare you to go see that," because it was SUCH an over-the-top, visceral experience - I think that'll be the case w/ the Poughkeepsie Tapes (I remember my friend's mom telling me once, when I took Dawn of the Dead to his house, that when she was a teenager, that movie scared the shit out of her and her friends and they would dare people in their group to see it). There are instances where a movie tries to justify the carnage and intensity with a pathetic and cliched story, but then there are times when a movie is totally straightforward and honest and basically says, "If you've got the balls..." And I think there's a bit of merit and value in that as a horror movie (but ONLY when it's honest; it's an honesty similar to Peter Jackson's in Bad Taste and Dead Alive about the movies bearing horror themes for the sake of comedy and fun gross-outs).
I can't wait to find the jumpiest friend I can and go see this on its opening weekend.

Cataclysm

Actually it will be nothing like August Underground.

For one, the movie isn't going to be the serial killers movies alone there is apparently going to be mixtures of news footage, interviews, etc. making more like what you would see on A&E or CourtTV.

Secondly, no chance in hell will this movie have the amazing effects and the graphic content that AU series had.

The only thing it has in common is the snuff/serial killer home video theme, which has already been done before.

The movie was ok. Slow though. Also a true story.

Kendall Francois: serial killer from Poughkeepsie, New York who targeted prostitutes; after strangling the women, he would store them in various crawl spaces in and around his home

was expeting a bit more from the movie. When i herd about this and saw the clips i thought we gonna get a shit load of violence and torture scenences! They were relying on the "leave something to the imagination" factor to much.

The movie is not based on a true story, and that serial killer and the movie have no correlation with one another. The only thing the two share in common is the location. :straightface2:

I think that is what made it a stronger movie, the fact that it didn't go the snuff route and actually played on the less is more to create tension and scares.

Well yeah....but i was kinda hoping for more of good ol' fashion gore and torture snuff sequences :D ...I still think it would have been a much better film if it went that extra mile, extended a few sequences or threw in 2-3 more short clips.
