You do realize neither of them were good jokers. Read the comics he a lot different from how they portrayed him.

I do read the comics, and Casaer Romero played the character excatly how he was in the 60's and Nicholson did a good joker. not over the top. I do agree the darker verison is how he is portrayed in comics now, but when both those men played Joker thats how he was portrayed in the comics.

There is one thing that I promise will turn this Joker from "cool" to "lame." A decade.

Ten years from now the complaint that they turned him into Mommy Dearest will be a lot more prevalent. I've watched it happen with other movies on this very forum -- like the '99 House on Haunted Hill remake. Only that one went in reverse.

Nicholson and Romero did very well for the theme of the Joker and the comics in their time. While Nicholson's Joker was not not Laughing Fish quality, it did a lot to reflect the Joker's sense of aesthetic.

It's kind of like Frank Miller's "All Star Batman." [1 (http://www.i-mockery.com/comics/longbox7/)] [2 (http://www.i-mockery.com/comics/longbox20/default.php)]. Same characters (at least in name) but retold as a different story.

These movies exist as a completely different take than the last series (Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney), which likewise existed separately from the West series, which was separate from the two guys changing clothes in a convertible series.
