View Full Version : What was the best sequel to whatever franchise?

I think Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 to the obvious Hellraiser franchise.
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 to the NOES franchise.
The Final Chapter for F13.
Halloween 2 for Halloween (followed by four and five).
Total toss-away thread, just seems like there aren't many new discussions coming up.
And don't feel the need to stick only to these franchises, go on to Ginger Snaps or Tremors or Romero's Dead series, whatever...
Nightmare 3 IMO is a better NOES sequel

i think f13 part 3 is the best in that franchise

Tremors 2 was a decent follow up to the first, but the third and prequal were greatly unnecessary.
Return of the living dead part 2 showed respect to the first, though many would say it ends there with its quality sequals.
Blade 2 was a great follow up.
Aliens was the perfect follow up to Alien, though 3 and resurrection were greatly lacking.
28 Weeks later was a fantastic follow up to 28 days.
Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness are legends of their time.
Critters 2 was a quality follow up, but it fades after that.
Creepshow 2 was a fitting sequal to the first, the third was lacking... but still partly entertaining.
The Grudge 2 rocked...only cause Buffy the vampire slayer dies in the first 10 mins. :haht:
Hellraiser 2 was picture perfect, even the third was fitting and somewhat well done... series sort of reaches after this, but still worth the watch.
Howling 4 returned life to the series, even if briefly.

I completely agree with you on Tremors 2, Blade 2, Aliens, and Hellraiser 2; but I think Evil Dead was the best of the Evil Dead trilogy. I think the second one is so popular because of it's humor and feel, the whole darker ambiance of it, it wasn't as campy. Had Evil Dead had the feel and tone of Evil Dead 2, it would be even more admired than it is now.

NOES = 3, Dream Warriors
28 Weeks Later for sure.
Child's Play = Bride of Chucky. Was actually what the films were supposed to be. A nice mix of horror and humor.
Hellraiser = 3, Hell on Earth

Dawn of the Dead seconded
Friday the 13th - Final Chapter with Jason Lives a close second
Halloween - Halloween 6 Producers Cut with Halloween 3 behind that
NOES - Nightmare 3 followed by New Nightmare
Childs Play - Childs Play 3
ROTLD - Return of the Living Dead 3 simply because it had something different to offer than a weaker ROTLD 2 which was a watered down ROTLD
Ehh thats it

And thanks for bringing it to my attention: Saw 2.
Of the Scream trilogy, they all went downhill fast, but I guess the second was the best of the two sequels.

Because they are decent flicks but no where near my 'top ten' sequals list... not even top 50.

Aliens for sure, Evil Dead 2 is my favorite of the trilogy. TCM 2 also my favorite out of all of em. Hellbound especially. This movie was such an enormous step forward from the first one and imo its rivaled in the series only by Bloodline. 28 weeks later was awesome. Saw 3, although unpopular, is my favorite so far. The Ring 2.

Forgot about the Final Destination movies; and I would agree with you that the second one is more entertaining, but I think the first was definitely a better movie (not as gory or as stimulating though).

Agreed with Jaws 2 despite the fact that it was ass boring.
If Dreyfuss had returned to go with Scheider and a script that didnt involve a bunch of underdeveloped, cardboard kids. It probably would've been a great sequel. Instead it was pretty mediocre for its time but still better than most stuff put out today despite being hella boring.

Oh, forgot to mention MY favorite "Hellraiser" sequels.
Again, if you thought "Hell on Earth" was the best one, you clearly didn't capture the essence of what the first was about.
I'd say "Hellbound", "Bloodline", and "Hellseeker". The fifth seemed to have a lot of random s**t in it. Ninja cowboys? What the hell?
I quit liking them really after part 3

I just TiVOd Hellraiser: Hellseeker; how is that?
It's the only other sequel I like besides Hellbound. Seriously. Ashley Laurence is great in it too. A lot of people say her character is too much of a stretch after the second one, but I can't see it. After going to hell, you can only be so much of a person.
And I can't believe you all forgot the gem that is Leprechaun: In da Hood. Come on people.
Lep In Da Hood was horrible, can't believe they made a Back to Da Hood, wait yes I can.

Well, that and the first are the only ones that kind of keep any element of mystery throughout; so in terms of I guess weaving a story with suspense and everything, that's probably one of the best.
