UK, December 3, 2007 - So the rumours are true: Christian Bale will star in the new Terminator film, and is set to play... John Connor!

According to a report in Variety today, the Batman Begins star will play the human resistance fighter leading the battle against Skynet in the 4th instalment of the franchise, entitled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

The production is set to be helmed by McG, who previously directed the Charlie's Angels films. Little is known about the plot at present, although the pic has been described as a "reboot" of the franchise -- the first in a new series of films set to chronicle the war between humanity and Skynet.

There has been speculation linking Bale to the project for several weeks, with the star also rumoured to have been considered for the role of a terminator. The John Connor character was previously played by Edward Furlong in T2 and Nick Stahl in T3.

Arnold Swarzenegger, who made his name starring in the first three Terminator films, is not attached to the project at present.

Don't care much for the director, but Bale as John Connor is awesome news :nod:

Bale would be much better as a terminator. The one thing I notice in all of his movies, one of his personal touches, is that disturbingly apathetic stare he gets. He used it a LOT in American Psycho, and a little bit in I'm Not There. I can't believe I never thought of it, but he'd make a great terminator.
Although he looks a lot like the guy they showed in T2 for 5 seconds who was supposed to be John Connor as an adult.

Bale is a fine actor, but the series said all it needed to in T2. Not looking forward to any more terminators.

Thats what I was thinking. The should make him look like that for continuity...but yeah know...

I have to assume that John Connor is a brooding character, given the glimpse from T2, and if there is one thing Bale has built his career on its dark and brooding.
