Which is better in your opinion? I gotta go with Dawn of the Dead. This is going to be another tough one.

Depends on my mood.
If I'm jittery I would more likly watch Dawn
If I would be reflecting over something probably The Exorcist.

Dawn of the Dead.

I never found The Exorcist to be scary as everybody made it out to be.

I know what you mean, I never really saw anything too scary in it. But it's a better movie than Dawn, and it happens to be horror so:
Exorcist.

Dawn has a pretty good chunk of stupidity in it. And also, their biggest differences is that Dawn is trying to have a visual impact and shock you with images, while The Exorcist is doing something totally different.

When I first watched the Exorcist as a kid, I was scared dumb. When I re watched it a year or so ago, I was still scared. it is very effective.

"Yeah, Martinez! Show your greasy little Puerto Rican ass so I can blow it right off!"

"Blow ALL their asses off! Low-life bastards! Blow ALL their low-life Puerto Rican and Nigger asses right off!"

"How the hell come we stick these low-life bastards in these big-ass hotels, anyway? Shit, man! This is better than I got!"

'Exorcist' ain't got nothin' on Wooley. Pure poetry.

Both films shock you into getting their attention, the only differenc eis that one of these films makes a decent point, and it sure isnt the exorcist...Well least in my mind.

The exorcist just sits there and makes you wait for the fucking exorcist to show up and take care of things after going through all the 'modern' medicine(film was made in 73)

The exorcist tries to be suttle and build up to a climax, guess what? Nothing doing. I dont care about Linda Blair pleasuring herself with a cross, crushing a shrinks nuts, cursing god and father Karras and his dead mother.

I wanted a battle of wills, creepyness, and characters I care about. I got none of those, all I got was a mother who was an consistant crying fucktard, a detective who's a creepy obnoxious loswer, and a depressed Priest. Granted the depressed Priest Father Karras was the only interesting character in the film, this movie was nothign but a joke. I still cant fathom why folks are scared of it now, but it seems most saw it when they were younger and admittidly that makes sense. Because the shit tha thappens here definitelly would scare the younger audience.

This isnt a film you can take seriously.

Not that dawn is a serious flick either, but Dawn has some interesting points to make about commercialism and class seperation, not to mention between the two, Dawn is suttle in the right way.

The exorcist is hap hazzard in how shit happens and its really a fucking joke when Father Merrin shows up. he's dead in 5 minutes and makes shit for an impact.

Also the title' the exorcist' is banal, the 'exorcist' in the film, is Father Merrin, but the priest who's havong a crisis of conscience, is father karras and he's the focus of the film.

Does he try to exorcise the little girl? yeah, only with father Merrin at the end.

This film and book should have been called something else, exorcism is the last resort in this film, all they try is science for a good half an hour, should have been called 'when science fails' or 'guess whats real?'. the exorcist is misleading.

I wanted the exorcist to be 'the ultimate experience in horror' as it was this legendary horror film that scared people shitless....but it was all a lie, a bad lie as well.

Just not my film I suppose.

Dawn of the Dead, because it has many dead things, while the Exorcist has only one or two dead things. More dead things = better horror movie.

Yeah I agree with you there, when I was younger the movie freaked me out badly. I watched it again a few years back and it still made me uncomfortable, it didn't scare me....but as you said " it is very effective"

But ill stick with Dawn as my pick.

The Exorcist isnt rivaled by anything in my opinion. One of my favorite movies ever. I may have seen it hundreds of times now and its still scary to me. No other movie has ever had that effect on me.
