Very unlikely.

True, it'd be interesting though.

I hope this is true. Dreamcast and the old PSX are still the best, and if DC2 is coming, it might join the top.

Probably just an easy means of extending their current copyright over the name.

I know Sega got out og the hardware business, although i wouldnt doubt they would be back.

I'd be all fanboy if Sega came back to the console biz

As much as a Sega fan as I am, I don't think it would be smart for them to re-enter the console market. Sega was forced to abandon four consoles in a row (Sega CD, 32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast) Needless to say, I think a lot of people would be tentative to purchase a new Sega console. Unless they can come up with something unique and innovative to spark peoples interest and get their attention (like Nintendo did with the Wii) I think they are better off just staying a third-party developer.

It would be a waste for Sega to re enter the console race at this point. If they were gonna try at another console it would be smart to go at it in the next gen. This current gen already has enough consoles that are selling slower than expected.

Sounds like an idea the wiz of gore would come up with

Always though the Dreamcast was the most underrated console out there. I'd be happy with another one.

I had a nice laugh about this because it made me realize a good portion of 360 users were Sega fans. Then I got to thinking, Peter Moore the old Xbox CEO was Sega's old CEO, did they jump to the Xbox because of him? Then I started thinking

Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast all consoles where Sega bailed out early and gave up on their own console. Then you look at the Xbox brand which gave up early. Now the 360 which we are hearing rumors that are they are going to create another early.

It's not as surprising now how these 'gamers' are willing to accept fautly hardware, short console lives, they are old Sega fans bitter at Sony for kicking their ass.

Most moron fanatics in the console war don't think that deeply about things, regardless of alliance.

The only systems sega bailed on were the Dreamcast and 32X.
The saturn never had the 3rd party support that it needed to survive in competition with nintendo and psx (hardware wise the saturn was capable of much more than the psx ). And the Dreamcast life span was cut short simply becasue the company decided to make games for all systems instead of consoles. Great move on Segas part, had Ninendo not pulled the Wii out of their asses they would probably be doing the same thing now. As for Xbox giving up early... Its a different ballgame now. Consoles are now up to the level of computers, but now that requires hardware upgrades to keep up with the latest of everything. Thus new consoles will be coming out more often. I don't think the xbox gave up early, do you really think that? It was released less than a year after the ps2. It had a short little trip, but the entire time being supported by microsoft and other third party companies.

Also, i love my ps2 as much as i love my xbox, but as for your comments regarding bad hardware..... I think Sony takes the cake with bad hardware.

But i do doubt that another Dreamcast is on its way. And if it is, chances are Sega will not have a whole lot to do with it aside from the name. To me the story looks just like an attempt to retain a trademark.

For one thing, Sega never bailed on the Genesis. The Genesis was just as popular as the SNES during the 16-bit console wars. Secondly, everything else you have said is nothing but assumptions. How can you prove that most fans of Microsoft are angry Sega fans? I was a fan of Sega and Sony during the Saturn/PS1 war as I'm sure many others were. True gamers don't have any allegiances to any one brand, they play and enjoy the best games of every system regardless of whether the load screen says Sega, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft etc. Anyone who gives a shit about a brand is a fanboy and personally, I don't consider fanboys true gamers.

I didn't know any of that info, I simply bought a 360 because it was the best system for my tastes, simple as that. I highly doubt some sega fan cult decided jump onto microsoft's boat for that reason you stated.
