I just got done watching and this has to be the most disburing movie I've ever scene. What they did to her in that basement was so brutal that I kinda felt sorry for her. I hope Aunt Roth is still dead or in prison from what she did and made her boys torturing that poor girl and her sister.

8/10

This actually wasn't a true story, just based on one. The real story is about Sylvia Likens, the movie of that is called An American Crime.

There have been very few books in which I've actually been emotionally upset and like, clentched my teeth at. Girl Next Door is one of them. Some friends of mine who have read it said they cried and they're not the most emotion of people. This book definately takes some balls to read, but it's worth it still I think.

I haven't read the book and after watching this movie for the first time I don't think I want to. Disturbing as hell, I really don't know what to say, just what the fuck.

It is a pretty grim read. I also liked The Lost by the same guy.

I still need to read that before I watch the movie. I tried about a year ago but misplaced the book somewhere and never got to finish.

Good movie, but definitely not as disturbing as the actual story.

Good movie. Haven't read the book but this was pretty disturbing and shocking. Afterwards it kept me thinking, "what the fuck did I just watch?" It's crazy that the actual events that it's based on is even like ten times worse.

The ending to this movie just fucking killed it for me.
I hated it.
I am a Miike fan, so i can deal with the rape and torture of children to some extent. But at least with his work i get a sense of art or a surrealism. Not with this movie, they cut right from the rape to the quick swift justice of a bad horror movie and it leaves the viewer with nothing more than a very dirty and unsettling feeling.
Fuck this movie.

If you want to read about the actual events this movie is based on, here's the link:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/young/likens/1.html

I read this and it made me sick to my stomach. What makes it even worse is the lack of punishment for the perpetrators. Ugh, just read it and you'll see what I mean.

I'm thinking about checking this film out, but I want to read the book first. (I'm hopefully getting it for Christmas *crosses fingers*) I can't wait for An American Crime to come out though. Ellen Page (Hayley from Hard Candy) plays Sylvia, so I'm sure that it will be great.
