Lately, be it baseball or football season, I've noticed there are several "experts" and commentators that I really can't stand listening to. It seems the older I get, the more I question what merit these people even have to score a job as an "expert" or a commentator.
There are a few that I really hate above all others...so much so that when they're on, I usually turn off the TV or switch to another channel. In order:
1) Merrill Hodge
2) Tim McCarver
3) Tom Jackson
4) Stephen Smith
5) Jimmy Johnson
Hodge annoys the living shit out of me. He never gives any legitimate insight into the game and he seems to say the same shit over and over every week. Everything is broad in scope - "This team has a bad secondary" or "The Dolphins really are as bad as their record" and so on. He gives nothing. He seems like Sean Salsbury's little bitch.
McCarver - NOTORIOUS Yankee fanboy. The guy can't ever seem to call a Sox-Yanks game without clamoring over whatever the Yankees are doing while questioning everything the Sox are doing. Also, he offers nothing about the game other than what's obvious: "Well, K-Zone clearly shows that was 6 inches off the plate." No shit, McCarver, we can see it too!
Tom Jackson hates the Patriots. Yes, that is the sole reason he annoys me. Why? Not because I'm from New England, but because he doesn't even try to hide it. Players always talk about how easy it is to be a sports writer or analyst yet Jackson proves that it apparently isn't THAT easy because he has no idea how to cover football games without clear bias.
Stephen Smith. The guy talks like he has marbles in his mouth and tries to act like he gives a shit about anything other than basketball, which I think is hilarious. Stick to hoops, Stevie.
The classic analyst that got a job purely off of prior accomplishments is Jimmy Johnson. Another huge Dallas homer, he's always more focused on trying to look good than he is giving decent input on a week's lineup of games. The guy is personally about aesthetics, and most definitely has a job with Fox for the very same reason...he's there just because of the star power that he provides to the network. His football talk is pathetic.
Who drives you into channel surfing?
