View Full Version : Who saw I Am Legend?

Beware
12-14-2007, 03:34 PM
I am seriously contemplating seeing it tonight, it looks good but what is being said over at IMDB is kinda turning me off.

Anyone recommend it?

I didn't read the book so I don't care if it ventures to far off from the book...

I'm breaking my PG-13 rule and seeing it tomorrow, for obvious reasons.

****** Spoiler Warning ******

I know no one cares what I thought of the movie, but I thought I would give a review anyways.

I literally just got home and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought there would have been more action, but the action that was there was needed and not overdone. This was a movie about a man trying to save the human race.

From bonding to his dog, Sam, to talking to manikins, Robert was surviving and trying to make a difference.

None of the official plans worked, but he kept his word that he would fix it and he did.

That is why I thought this was a good movie. It showed a man’s struggle to survive for the sack of humanity.

While the special effects could have been better, I give this movie 3.5 out of 5. It was entertaining. It made you laugh, cry and jump out of your sheet.

The only part I disliked was the killing of Sam. While it was necessary for Robert to do so (dog was infected), it broke my heart when he had to.

Aside from the moans the older lady sitting by me gave out during the house attack scene. My overall experience was good.

I thought it was pretty good, but I just don't get why they ventured away from the source material, Will Smith did a great job as Neville though, I just wish the screenwriter didn't try to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place.

Il Duce

It was good considering the films rating and they didn't seem too much like vampires except for the fact that sunlight hurt them and they were suck and eating blood from a deer. Also that ending was pretty crazy it might just rival The Mist ending at kinda of having some balls that hollywood doesn't seem to give us too often 7/10 at least.

**some spoilers**

I thought it had a great story and all, but the only problem I had with it was basically that they showed all of the awesoe cgi (empty manhattan, bridge destruction) in the trailer. I was hoping for something a bit different or knew. I did enjoy how one of the infected lunged at the car from street while they where driving to escape, but I still was very curious about what all really happend in those '3 years'.

Also.. the girl who shows up on the island.. how did she do that again? One of my friends said they heard her say she used a barge. That seems pretty farfetch'd.

Watching Access Hollywood over dinner sometime this week and Will Smith was getting some Oscar talk, would any of you guys say it's appropriate? Obviously he wouldn't win; it's just not possible. Think of all the great male leads there've been this year with all the men in I'm Not There and No Country for Old Men and Love in the Time of Cholera, and probably Tom Hanks for the movie he's got coming out in a few weeks. But anyone think he would deserve it?

Saw this shit last night. I knew it was going to be bad, but not this bad. Totally unfaithful to the book, which is a legend itself. Wil Smith was unbelievable, the CGI vampires were laughable, and the story was vague and boring (1st half hour was difficult to sit through)

Total piece o' crap.

Yeah the CG 'vampires', 'infected' or whatever you want to call them were abso-fucking-lutely pathetic.

Meh we all have movies where we call them a failure based on whose involved with the project. Sounds like this is one of them for a majority so far.

Nevertheless, I'll check it. I liked most of Smiths work outside of Wild Wild West which was probably the worst film associated with Smith IMO.

* This movie is good for about 10 minutes, not the last 10 minutes, not the first 10 minutes, but the 10 minutes that reminded me what it was like to watch my dog die, i felt like i was watching old yeller once again and my older brother Travis just took him out back to be shot. I rarely get emotional watching a movie, i could see 500 people slaughtered by aliens and give two shits, but for some reason when dogs/cats die i care.

* "I AM LEGEND" - what a crock, his legend isn't to be a fucking two bit hero who dies to save our pathetic race, this 'legend' was the 'normal', the 'freak' who walked during the day and hunted the new race of man. His legend was that he was the last of a species whom would hunt and kill the evolved people of earth.

The story was well told, but only well told as a remake of 'the omega man' and better than that it was. I would like to see a true version of the story where the hero is in fact the anti hero, the nemesis to the people, then perhaps I'd care even more when his only friend that was given to him...oh wait he finds it and it's already infected...i just want a true version of the book brought to light. Bring us LEGEND as he should be....the enemy.

That lousy fuckin' idea is in every movie that has even anything remotely to do with zombies. CG is used just so they can have zombies that can climb up walls. That's all it is.

Make a movie look like complete fake-ass shite so zombies can climb up walls. :bored:

I'm with you guys on this. If this were a good hard "R" rating, NO CGI (my biggest issue), and had remained faithful to Matheson's work, I would've really gotten into it. The CGI was so bad I can't even believe it. They are supposed to be infected humans.....why CGI that???? And why give them the big "Mummy" mouths? It was so inept. I am done with these blockbusters....I am never satisfied. Bring me T2 any day.

Chief Falling Rock
01-01-2008, 08:49 PM
I agree with Jerky...man that sounds weird. Anyway I just got back from it and this movie PISSED ME OFF. It had the potential to be SO GREAT. Will Smith I thought did an excellent job. When he was depressed, I was depressed. He did good at the emotion thing.

And I was completely convinced the guy was alone in New York City. They did an amazing job with that. And then.....the CGI. It ruins the entire movie. It is SO BAD. I don't like CG but as long as they don't use it much I can get over it pretty quick. But here....good lord. Like Jerkypuck mentioned the "mummy mouths" that was just stupid. I mean why? AND WHY they couldnt just slap some makeup on these people I'll never know. I MEAN WHAT THE FUCK! Why do you have to CG a bald sickly looking person?? Thats just dumb. This movie could have been great. But it ended up being shit.

The first hour was really good, I liked smith's performance. But the monsters were distracting. CGI humans aren't quite there yet and it draws all your attention, then makes you wonder why it's not just a guy in a skull cap, since they're just lying on tables or huddled in corners.

The book is a lot better in my opinion, I'd suggest reading it, it's only like 150 pages or so I think so its not like it's an extremely long book. It comes with a bunch of other short stories too, at least my version did.

I saw it shortly after it came out. I thought it was decent. The ending I didn't like much. It was neat the zombies (i guess that's what you call them) were smart enough to move the "Fred" and set the trap that the he set. The little things like sitting on the wharf the same time every day and high noon, the relationship with the dog and few other things. But overall I wasn't too impressed. I'd give it a 6.5/10.

The level of suck acted in a reverse bell curve, if you will. Most movies suck most in act 2. I Am Legend, well, it only sucked least there in the middle.

I love watching Will Smith perform. I love hearing Mike Patton perform(Monster/Vampire voice talent). And I'm old enough to remember when they were fronting two of the biggest bands in the 80s. But those decades of affection couldn't save this really badly put together movie.

For what it's worth, I was able to overlook the CG monsters. What really hurt was the awful storytelling.

I never saw this, I hear from everyone. I talked with my stoner friend about it and he went on about the film for TWO HOURS! Just talking to me about it and how everything is traceable to BOB MARLEY.

He told me that the girls name is MARLEY, that theres a butterfly in the lyrics and the butterfly throughout the film represents GOD, and how in BOB's songs it represented GOD, and how the TEXT on the poster of I AM LEGEND is the same as "BOB MARLEYS LEGENEDS" cd

Just on and on.

Wild Wild West was a bad movie about possibility seeking adventurers in the American frontier.

*** SPOILERS *** Black text on black background, highlight to see
I am Legend was an awful movie about killer measles, a man begging a mannequin for sex, and two pictures of butterflies inspiring the same loser (also now the smartest living person on earth) to kill himself
*** NO MORE SPOILERS***

So, hell yes. I would watch Wild Wild West again in a heartbeat if those were my only two choices. It was more fun, the CG was better, and it was a much more positive film.

Mental note: You are the only one that can hear the voices in your head. No one here has called you a "tuff" anything. Getting pretty bad when you go from making up posts other people say to posting what the voices tell you... :poorguy:

it was a much more positive film.

Odd how an adventure/comedy is more positive than a "everyone's dead or hungry" film. The world is full of mysteries.

Night of the Comet dealt with similar themes as I am Legend in a way to suggest that people could still live happy, full lives. Even the more recent Dawn of the Dead remake showed people at least trying to make the best of their situation. Even Reign of Fire wasn't as bad (although not what I could call good). I can not agree in any way with how I am Legend was distorted.
