So i was never really into video games (last system i had was Nintendo 64) but all of a sudden I've felt this urge like Im missing out. I was debating whether to get the XBOX or the Wii. I want to get both (although Im told the Wii is sold out till April), but id figure Id ask u guys about which one you prefer better and why...
thanks!

I've had a chance to play all three machines and I'm still glad I bought a Wii, the damn thing is just downright fun. I'm getting Mario Galaxy very soon...can't wait.

I was the same a couple years back when the last system I owned was the PS1, but now I have all three. The Wii is fun, but there's really not a whole lot of good games for it. Most are too simple and gimmicky waste-of-times, while the 360 obviously has a huge library of great games, but of course, it's a rather faulty system and you'll likely get the dreaded rings of death at one point or another. I personally never got the three rings, but it seems that everyone else on the board has. It just depends on what you're looking to do really. I'd say chance it and get a 360.

360 until the ps3 drops in price and the library improves.

Hardware wise the ps3 takes all to the bank. But its very hard for developers to use that hardware, thus ps3 games might only look slightly better than 360 games and in the long run is not worth the extra 200 bucks.
The 360 has a great online community and a lot of the games are fun.
The WII has few extremely fun games, but as with all nintendo systems the good games really come down to the ones we have been playing for 20 years (mario, zelda, donkey kong, ect).

I'd choose the 360 anyday, I hate the Wii, it's just novelty shite in my opinion, it's really failed to capture me.

The PS3 is $399 now and there some specials that you can get it even lower, The 360 is $399 for the Halo and Elite version, $349 for the premium.

$50 more and you get soo much more. The $100 Xbox 360 wifi included in the PS3 already makes it worth it

To each his own. I own Halo 3, I played Bioshock, I own Mass Effect and I'm not impressed. Bioshock was overhyped, no replay value, very linear and no MP. Halo 3 was too short. Mass Effect had terrible frame rate drops and freezing.

On the other hand Folklore was very nice visuals and fun to play. Heavenly Sword plays like God of War with movie like cut scenes that make it worth your money alone. Uncharted took everything good about Gears of War and Tomb Raider and made an amazing game, one of the best of the year. Ratchet & Clank is a great game with Pixar like graphics.

Truth be told. The 360 already dished out all its cards, it has nothing left. And with studios jumping ship and being bought out it will lose its exclusives such as Gears, Mass Effect etc http://www.gametrailers.com/bonusround.php?ep=17&pt=2. While the PS3 hasn't even started yet and that's the scary part. Once the Final Fantasies, God of War, Metal Gear, Killzone and other titles come out.. whoa. you feel me?

But anyway to stay on topic. I'd get a 360 over a Wii.

I'm going with a Wii for the following, personal reasons:

#1: I am a casual gamer.

#2: Built in wifi + Ghostbusters + Wiimote + brother in Michigan == childhood dream come true.

As it turned out, about 75% of my time with the PS2 was spent playing DDR. Thus, the gimmicky end of the Wii also appeals to me.

360 hands down.

The new systems don't have bugs
it's cheaper then the ps3
it has better games then the ps3 and the wii
it has MUCH better online then both the ps3 and the wii

I'm lovin' the Wii... I haven't played a game on it that wasn't a blast. Some games take a little getting used to, but I figure why would I want to sit down and instantaneously whoop a game's ass... especially considering how much it costs to buy one of them fuckers.

One thing that I think gives the Wii an edge is it makes the controller more than just a way to play the game. It makes the controller a part of the game. I don't think I've played two games that the controls behave the same way. It's just damn fun figuring out what you can do with the Wii-mote on each game.

I think what it boils down to is this question: Do you want the same old thing with better graphics or Do you want an entirely new mode of game-play?

How new is the WIIs gameplay?

I dunno, maybe this all comes down to "hardcore gamers", but for "us" this is nothing new or creative.
And Beast, you are old enough to remember arcades, a lot of arcades back in the day this feature.
Its nothing new for those who recognize technology.

I've seen -- and played with -- my share of gimmicky controllers.

Roll N Rocker. That cheesy exercise pad. Light Zapper. U-Force. I lost count of how many DDR pads I burned through, too.

So again, this is all kind of fun for me. In my older age, I hate being stuck to a chair -- get 8 hours of THAT at work every day.
