View Full Version : if only five movies, which would they be?

I'm gonna stop making so many goddamn threads, but anyways..

I started thinking about this because the othe rnight my dad said that after I was born he made up this scenario in his head that he though about for days, he thought, "If my son ever said to me, 'Dad, I hate reading, and I'm never gonna read anything out of my own will, but I'll read one book for you,' what would I tell him to read?"

I thought it was an interesting scenario, so in terms of horror movies, what would you guys tell someone? Your kid or your friend, whatever, if they said they'd only see five horror movies just for you, which would you make them see, and why? Would you make the list out of a hope to change their views about horror movies, to show them what horror movies are capable of, how beautifully violence can be portrayed, how intelligent they can be, etc., etc...?

No idea what to put as the fifth so I'll just go with Silver Bullet cause it's the first horror I saw.

I did this with my friend because she's always been afraid/disgusted of horror movies and never watched any. She agreed to a few movies and has seen:

The Lost Boys
Poltergiest
GrindHouse
Carrie
28 Days Later
Sleepy Hollow
and a few other pg-13 type ones.

If I could choose ANY ones for her, I'd be mean and choose:
High Tension
Dawn of the Dead (04, because she wouldn't get the cultural aspect of the original)
Ginger Snaps
American Psycho
and probably Behind the Mask so she can learn how to poke fun at horror movies instead of be scared of them.

My cousin had a friend who couldn't stand blood, so me, my brother and my cousin told her we were gonna watch a Scream-type of teen slasher, but we actually put on Braindead. We had a great time.

Sorry, just started thinking about that.

No, not really, what five movies would you show to someone if you were trying to show them the higher points of horror. Not necessarily your top five, though you could put that down.

I wouldn't have 2 NOES movies in the list, I would mix it up a little if I was trying to show someone different kinds of horror movies.

I see what you're saying, but NOES and New Nightmare are pretty different movies. Same characters and everything, but very different.
