I just watched this last night, and it's not a horror movie, but it chronicles the rise of Ed Wood and the decline of Bella Lugosi, who was apparently REALLY fucked up and depressed towards the end of his life. The movie was great, even though I find Johnny Depp to be kind of irritating in that Willy Wonka kind of perkiness throughout. The guy who played Lugosi, the netflix sleeve says he won an oscar for his performance, and shit did her deserve it.

Anyone have any thoughts on this movie, or Lugosi or Ed Wood in general? I'm feeling kind of compelled to see some of his movies now, particularly Bride of the Monster.

I own it and love it! It still amazes me that even though this guy made shitty films, the guy had so much passion for films and that he became a cult icon for bad films. I consider Uwe Boll the Ed Wood of our time (except more people hate him).

I also own the Ed Wood box set, distributed by Image Entertainment. The set contains five of his movies as well as a documentary of Ed Wood. The movies are just as cheesy, awful, cheap-assed, boring, and hilarious as portrayed by the Hollywood film. The scenes in the Hollywood movie are pretty accurate to the movie scenes filmed by Ed Wood.

*On a side note, Ed Wood's girlfriend (who appeared in the films featured in the box set) has some of the most horrible acting I've seen in films to date. Pretty comical at points!

Great movie. I've seen a few of wood's movies, and there are a lot worse out there.

Love this movie. Two of my favorite pieces of dialogue from it...

Ed Wood: Listen, I was wondering if you'd like to go out some time. Grab some dinner, maybe.

Vampira: You mean a date? I thought you were a fag.

Ed Wood: No, no. I'm just a transvestite.

Conrad Brooks: You know which movie of yours I love, Mister Lugosi? "The Invisible Ray". You were great as Karloff's sidekick.

Bela Lugosi: Karloff? Sidekick? FUCK YOU! Karloff does not deserve to smell my SHIT! That Limey cocksucker can rot in hell for all I care!

Ed Wood: W-what happened?

Bela: How dare that asshole bring up Karloff? You think it takes talent to play Frankenstein? It's all, all makeup, and-and grunting. [imitates Frankenstein] Grrr-Rrrr!

Ed: I agree, Bela. I agree a hundred percent. Now Dracula — there's a part that takes talent.

One of my absolute favorites. I own it on VHS, then got the special edition DVD for Christmas last year.

Absolutely one of the most quotable movies ever. "KARLOFF? SIDEKICK?!?!" is common in conversations between myself and my brother.

And Patricia Arquette, before she got ugly to a play a really good looking woman on Medium. :hitit:
