Nothing really new here but some info.

As long suspected by the observant, it appears the New Friday is more sequel than remake. STYD reported a bit back that "After speaking to a source close to the project who wishes to stay outside of the spotlight (for now), we're striking the former term out of future reports on the film. "It's not a remake," says our insider. Don't even expect an origin tale - as some production listings around Hollywood are pegging it as. Imagine if there was a story to be told somewhere between parts two and four, just add water (from Camp Crystal Lake, duh), insert a leaner, meaner, faster Jason Voorhees, set to "blend" and you've got the recipe for what Dunes, writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift and director Marcus Nispel got cookin'

Sounds good to me, although people are gonna bitch either way. If it was a straight up remake, people would be saying their ruining the old movies. Now thats its more or less inching closer to a sequel. People will be saying its the same shit all over again. Cant really please either side but I like what I see with this news.

A leaner, meaner faster Jason?

Sounds great.

Whatever people associated with the film want to call it, it's still essentially a remake.

They don't want to hear web heads bitching about remakes, so they'll call it a sequel.

Doesn't matter who bitches about it "Remake" or "same old crap".... both will see it opening night.

So it's basically taking place within the few years after Mr.s Vorhees' death and then we're going to focus on Jason? Kinda like a remake of part 2??? Which then leaves a prequel option pretty much open if the film does well.

I will likely see it weeks after its release like I do with most horror flicks :dsp:

Sounds like a Companion Film.
Not a remake, Not a sequel, Just a story in the Jason universe.

Maybe Micheal Bailey Smith the early frontrunner for Jason?

One of the more persistant casting options running around the rumor mill has been that Michael Bailey Smith would play Jason Voorhees in New Friday. Now here's the real deal (for now) direct from Bailey himself when he was asked by journalist Christian Sellers:

"Now, let's talk about the rumors of me playing Jason in the remake of "Friday the 13th." Well, I've heard the rumors too and a few people in certain positions have talked to me but that's about it. I would be very flattered and honored to get the opportunity to play such an iconic character. However, like anything in Hollywood, don't ever count on anything until you're standing in front of the camera and the director calls, "Action!""

I personally wouldn't mind if Bailey got the role. Check of this composite I've put together - Bailey's facial characteristics and noggin recall Friday 3's Richard Brooker. Bailey played Pluto in the 2006 Hills Have Eyes remake which came off looking somewhat like Warrington Gillette in Friday 2. In addition, he played another mutant in the Hills remake sequel, and years earlier was the Leatherface-like killer Fuckface of the awesome Jeepers Creepers/TCM hybrid Monster Man.

Only watched alittle bit of the Hills remake. He looks like he could fit the role, especially in reference to likes of what Richard Brooker was in Friday 3.

I may be one of few people who think this, I know it's not a very loved movie on this board, but I think what Rob Zombie did for Michael Myers (in terms of his appearance and manner, not referring to the whole origin story thing) was great, and I think if they could put a little more youth and I guess a bit less confidence and a bit more aggression, it would make mountains of difference - in a good way.

The remake of Hellraiser, this sequel, and Phantasm 5, should they all come out as planned, are gonna make 2008 a major compensation for 2007 in terms of horror movies. Also, I think the Poughkeepsie Tapes is gonna break some ground. I know it's kind of treading on Blair Witch territory, and in that sense it's probably gonna lose a good chunk of its audience, but it looks disturbing as shit, and if that's the case, God knows word of mouth has always been the low-budget horror movie's best friend.

i miss the days when people could actually fight back against Jason--before he got all "unstoppable" and whatnot. Chris from part 3 beat him like he stole somethin
