Pakistan's Bhutto killed in attack

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan - Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide attack at a campaign rally that also killed at least 20 others, aides said. Bhutto's supporters erupted in anger and grief after her death, attacking police and burning tires and election campaign posters in several cities. At the hospital where she died, some smashed glass and wailed, chanting slogans against President Pervez Musharraf.

Benazir Bhutto died from a fractured skull after hitting her head on her car's sunroof lever, not from a bullet or bomb shrapnel, a spokesman for Pakistan's Interior Ministry said today. On Thursday, officials said Bhutto was shot by a suicide bomber. Another report said she died from a shrapnel wound.

Very much so. American foreign policy towards Pakistan, and the entire region in general isn't exactly a shining beacon. This will only make things worse.

I don't think it's "black helicopter" territory to examin how much Musharraf has to gain from this development. I can't blame Bhutto's husband for his calls for an investigation by non-Pakistani entities.
